''Only Pain Is Real'' is the second and final studio album by the Portuguese band Silence 4 Silence 4 were a Portuguese band, formed in 1996, who mostly sung in English. After good feedback from showing some demo tapes to a music shop owner in Leiria, David Fonseca approached Sofia Lisboa with the idea of forming a band. That idea only materialized one year later, when both of them invited Rui Costa to the band — who suggested they turn off the amplifiers and play acoustic, in ''silence''. ''Silence Becomes It'' is the debut album by Portuguese band Silence 4, released in June 1998. It was a huge success in Portugal, reaching a six-time platinum certification (240,000 units sold), but had less success internationally. The album contains 15 songs, including a hidden track, and two versions of "A Little Respect" by Erasure. Most of the songs are in English, with only two in Portuguese: "Sextos Sentidos", a duet with Sérgio Godinho, and "Eu Não Sei Dizer". The songs deal with themes of love, pain, melancholy, loss, death, sorrow, loneliness and nostalgia – themes that are recurrent in Silence 4 and David Fonseca's solo career discography. David Fonseca
David Fonseca (, born on 14 June 1973, in Leiria) is a Portuguese musician, singer-songwriter and photographer. As a musician, he plays several instruments, including acoustic guitar and organ. He is recognized for his successful music career as a member of Silence 4 and, since 2003, as a solo artist. He is also responsible for the graphic design on his album covers and the art direction on his videoclips. Between 2004 and 2006, he was also part of the Humanos tribute project. Beginnings David Fonseca studied cinema at the Lisbon Theatre and Film School (Escola Superior de Teatro e Cinema) where he attained a bachelor's degree.
