One Of The Hollywood Ten
''One of the Hollywood Ten'' is a 2000 Spanish-British bio-picture. The film was written and directed by Karl Francis. The drama focuses on screenwriter/ director Herbert Biberman and his efforts to make what would become the historic political film, ''Salt of the Earth'' in 1954, produced without studio backing after he was blacklisted for belonging to the American Communist Party. Plot The film opens at the 1937 Academy Awards, where Biberman's wife, Gale Sondergaard ( Greta Scacchi), wins the first ever "Best Supporting Actress" Oscar. Although the anti-Fascist sentiment in her acceptance speech gets her labelled a "commie" by some observers, she and Biberman ( Jeff Goldblum) are placed under contract at Warner Bros. Rosaura Revueltas Sánchez (August 6, 1910 – April 30, 1996) was a Mexican actress of screen and stage, and a dancer, author and teacher. Early life Rosaura Revueltas was born in Lerdo, Durango, Mexico to the famously artistic Revueltas family and had three brothers who all were artists: Silvestre Revueltas who was a composer, Jose Revueltas a writer and Fermín Revueltas a painter. Michael Wilson (July 1, 1914 – April 9, 1978) was an American screenwriter. Life and career Early life Wilson was born and raised Roman Catholic in McAlester, Oklahoma. He graduated from UC Berkeley with a bachelor's degree in philosophy in 1936 and did post-graduate fellowship work between 1937 and 1939. He taught English and began his writing career with short stories for magazines. Then, starting in 1941, he wrote or co-wrote 22 screenplays.
