''Ondu Premada Kathe'' () is a 1977 Indian Kannada-language romantic drama film written by B. R. Lakshman Rao and directed by Joe Simon (film director), S. M. Joe Simon. This film is the first Cinema of South India, South Indian black and white CinemaScope. It stars L. V. Sharada Rao, Maanu (actor), Maanu and Ashok (Kannada actor), Ashok in the lead roles. Rao plays Lakshmi, the headmistress of a village school; Maanu as her husband and teacher; and Ashok as Chandrashekhar Rao, an acquaintance of Lakshmi. Maanu (actor)
Guttigeri Manappa (died 16 July 1996), known mononymously as Maanu, was an Indian actor, television director and author. He was most noted for his work in Kannada cinema. For his performance in '' Tabbaliyu Neenade Magane'' (1977), he received the Filmfare Award for Best Actor – Kannada at the 25th Filmfare Awards South. Biography Maanu hailed from Kuppalli, a village in Shimoga district of Karnataka. He obtained his bachelor of arts degree from Sahyadri College in Shimoga. During this time, he also performed in amateur theatre. He obtained a master's degree from University of Mysore, and began working as a reader at a private educational institution. CinemaScope
CinemaScope is an anamorphic lens series used, from 1953 to 1967, and less often later, for shooting widescreen films that, crucially, could be screened in theatres using existing equipment, albeit with a lens adapter. Its creation in 1953 by Spyros P. Skouras, the president of 20th Century Fox, marked the beginning of the modern anamorphic format in both principal 2.55:1, almost twice as wide as the previously common Academy format's 1.37:1 ratio. Although the technology behind the CinemaScope lens system was made obsolete by later developments, primarily advanced by Panavision, CinemaScope's anamorphic format has continued to this day. Prema Karanth (15 August 1936 – 29 October 2007) was an Indian theatre personality and the first-ever woman film-maker of Kannada cinema. She was the wife of B. V. Karanth and was known for the children's plays that she staged. She became the first ever woman director in Kannada cinema when she directed the film '' Phaniyamma'' (1983), which was based on a novel by M. K. Indira.
