Tectiphiala
''Tectiphiala ferox'', or ''palmiste bouglé'', is a species of flowering plant in the family Arecaceae. It is endemic to Mauritius. It is threatened by habitat loss. It is the sole species in the genus ''Tectiphiala''. ''Tectiphiala ferox'' was not known until 1965 when this new species of the Mascarene palm was discovered near Grand Bassin by Marc d"Unienville. Individuals in this species can grow up to 9 meters. The cytology Cell biology (also cellular biology or cytology) is a branch of biology that studies the structure, function, and behavior of cells. All living organisms are made of cells. A cell is the basic unit of life that is responsible for the living and ... of this species has not been studied. Deckenia (plant)
''Deckenia nobilis'' (cabbage palm or millionaire's salad) is a species of flowering plant in the family Arecaceae. It is monotypic within the genus ''Deckenia'', and is endemic to the Seychelles, where it is threatened by habitat loss. It was described in 1870. Description This species of palm tree has a distinctive spiny fruit, and produces yellow spines on the trunks of young specimens. Adults reach a height of 40 meters. Distribution and habitat ''Deckenia nobilis'' is endemic to the Seychelles. In the wild, it is found intermittently in lowland forests, at elevations up to 600 metres. It is in decline due to unregulated or illegal over-harvesting Overexploitation, also called overharvesting, refers to harvesting a renewable resource to the point of diminishing returns. Continued overexploitation can lead to the destruction of the resource, as it will be unable to replenish. Oncosperma Tigillarium
''Oncosperma tigillarium'' is an Asian species of palm tree in the family Arecaceae. Description ''Oncosperma tigillarium'' grows to 12m (possibly up to 30m) in height in dense thickets of up to 50 palm trees. The trunks of the palms are covered with long black spines. ''Oncosperma tigilarium'' has finely pinnate leaves, with drooping leaflets. Common names Its common name in Indonesian is ''nibung'' meaning ''thorn'', for the long thorns that arise along the length of the trunk of the palm. In parts of the Philippines it is known as ''anibung'' in the Hiligaynon language. In Khmer it is called sla: ta 'aôn Distribution The species is known from inland, lower salinity waters, near mangrove swamps of southern Vietnam, Cambodia, the Philippines, Malaysia and Indonesia, in Southeast Asia. It is native to these areas west of the Wallace Line growing at elevations below 150 metres. It is endangered in some areas due to deforestation, and it is invasive to a few tropical islands ...

Benth
George Bentham (22 September 1800 – 10 September 1884) was an English botanist, described by the weed botanist Duane Isely as "the premier systematic botanist of the nineteenth century". Born into a distinguished family, he initially studied law, but had a fascination with botany from an early age, which he soon pursued, becoming president of the Linnaean Society in 1861, and a fellow of the Royal Society in 1862. He was the author of a number of important botanical works, particularly flora. He is best known for his taxonomic classification of plants in collaboration with Joseph Dalton Hooker, his ''Genera Plantarum'' (1862–1883). He died in London in 1884. Life Bentham was born in Stoke, Plymouth, on 22 September 1800.Jean-Jacques Amigo, « Bentham (George) », in Nouveau Dictionnaire de biographies roussillonnaises, vol. 3 Sciences de la Vie et de la Terre, Perpignan, Publications de l'olivier, 2017, 915 p. Hook
A hook is a tool consisting of a length of material, typically metal, that contains a portion that is curved or indented, such that it can be used to grab onto, connect, or otherwise attach itself onto another object. In a number of uses, one end of the hook is pointed, so that this end can pierce another material, which is then held by the curved or indented portion. Some kinds of hooks, particularly fish hooks, also have a barb, a backwards-pointed projection near the pointed end of the hook to ensure that once the hook is embedded in its target, it can not easily be removed. Variations * Bagging hook, a large sickle or reaping hook used for harvesting grain * Bondage hook, used in sexual bondage play * Cabin hook, a hooked bar that engages into an eye screw, used on doors * Cap hook, hat ornament of the 15th and 16th centuries * Cargo hook (helicopter), different types of hook systems for helicopters * Crochet hook, used for crocheting thread or yarn * Drapery hook, for ha ...

Acanthophoenix
''Acanthophoenix'' is a genus of flowering plants in the palm family from the Mascarene Islands in the Indian Ocean, where they are commonly called palmiste rouge. A genus long in flux, three species are currently recognized, though unsustainable levels of harvesting for their edible palm hearts have brought them all to near extinction in habitat. They are closely related to the '' Tectiphiala'' and '' Deckenia'' genera, differing in the shape of the staminate flower.Uhl, N. W. and J. Dransfield. ''Genera Palmarum - A Classification of Palms Based on the Work of Harold E. Moore''. Lawrence, Kansas: Allen Press. 1987. / The name combines the Greek words for "thorn" and "date palm".Riffle, R. L. and P. Craft. ''An Encyclopedia of Cultivated Palms''. Portland: Timber Press. 2003. / Description The solitary trunks are robust and conspicuously ringed, sparsely armed in youth, with a slightly swollen base. The tubular leaf bases wrap the trunk, forming a 60 – 90 cm cro ...
