On (Echobelly Album)
''On'' was the second album from English rock band Echobelly. Gaining a favourable response from critics, the album reached number 4 in the UK Albums Chart becoming their most commercially successful album. The album spawned three top 40 singles two of which managed to reach the top 20. On 21 July 2014, a 2CD expanded edition of the album was released with B-sides and previously unreleased live performances. Album title The album title was inspired by a poster found by Glen and Sonya. The poster had the word "no" across it in blood red. By turning the word around, it became a positive, and thus decided to title the album On. Rock Band
A rock band or pop band is a small musical ensemble that performs rock music, pop music, or a related genre. A four-piece band is the most common configuration in rock and pop music. Echobelly Albums
Echobelly are a British rock band, debuting in 1994 with their album ''Everyone's Got One''. They were often compared to Blondie and The Smiths; Morrissey becoming a fan of the group. The most prominent part of Echobelly's success formula was vocalist Sonya Madan, who was also the group's lyricist. Born in Delhi, India, before moving to England at the age of two, Madan had an unusual background for a pop star. Her upbringing made rock music an unusual choice for her as a youngster and she did not attend her first rock concert until she was in college. In 1990 she met Glenn Johansson, a guitarist from Sweden. In a radio interview with Janice Long, on BBC Radio Wales, in December 2017, she admitted that her parents had initially found it hard to accept her choice of career. Drum
The drum is a member of the percussion group of musical instruments. In the Hornbostel-Sachs classification system, it is a membranophone. Bass Guitar
The bass guitar, electric bass or simply bass (), is the lowest-pitched member of the string family. It is a plucked string instrument similar in appearance and construction to an electric or an acoustic guitar, but with a longer neck and scale length, and typically four to six strings or courses. Debbie Smith (musician)
Debbie Smith is a British guitar and bass player who has been in several bands from the 1990s to the present, including Curve, Echobelly, Nightnurse, Snowpony, Bows, Ye Nuns, SPC ECO and current bands Blindness and The London Dirthole Company. Smith was interviewed for the 1995 book ''Never Mind the Bollocks: Women Rewrite Rock'' by Amy Raphael (published in the US as ''Grrrls: Viva Rock Divas''). She was also interviewed and quoted for the book ''Frock Rock: Women Performing Popular Music'', a sociological study of women musicians in British popular music; at the time of the interview she was in Echobelly, and the book notes that Skin and Yolanda Charles both said that Smith was the only current black British female guitarist either one of them could think of. Guitar
The guitar is a fretted musical instrument that typically has six strings. The human voice consists of sound made by a human being using the vocal tract, including talking, singing, laughing, crying, screaming, shouting, humming or yelling. "Dark Therapy" is the third and final single from Echobelly's second album On. It was released by the Britpop group in February 1996. The song was included on both of the greatest hits albums that Echobelly have released; ''I Can't Imagine The World Without Me'' and ''The Best Of Echobelly''. The song was also re-released acoustically by Glen Johansson and Sonya Madan under the name Calm of Zero. It appears on the EP Acoustic Sessions 1. A music video was made for the song.
