OmniTRAX, Inc. is a transportation and transportation infrastructure holding company based in Denver, Colorado, in the United States. It primarily owns or operates railroads, with a network of 25 regional and shortline railroads in 12 U.S. states and three Canadian provinces. It is one of the largest privately owned railroad companies in the United States. The firm also invests in, develops, and operates ports, multimodal transportation terminals, and industrial parks. History of the company OmniTRAX was incorporated in 1986 as a subsidiary of The Broe Group, a privately held energy development and real estate company founded by Denver businessman Pat Broe in 1972. OmniTRAX purchased the Great Western Railway of Colorado that year in order to augment the value of Broe's industrial real estate developments in northeastern Colorado. Chicago Rail Link
The Chicago Rail Link is a shortline switching railroad in Illinois. It owns and operates more than 72 miles of track on the South Side of Chicago. It is owned by OmniTRAX. History The Chicago Rail Link was essentially organized 29 August 1980 after the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific railroad abandoned track when it went defunct. It was originally called the LaSalle & Bureau County Railway and owned former CRI&P track between LaSalle and Midway, Illinois. This track was abandoned in the Link's early years and is now owned by the Iowa Interstate Railroad. The Chicago Rail Link merged with Chicago, West Pullman & Southern railroad on August 15, 1996. Manufacturers' Junction Railway
The Manufacturers' Junction Railway is a shortline railroad in Cicero, Illinois. Originally a subsidiary of Western Electric used to switch their Hawthorne Works, after the plants were phased out it was sold to OmniTRAX, a company offering railroad management and other services. History The railroad was founded on 28 January 1903, with the route opening in 1906, to switch Western Electric's Hawthorne Works. In 1917 it had a track length of in spite of it being less than long. In 1958 it was operating approximately of track. In May 1986, after the Hawthorne Works were closed in 1983, the railroad was sold to the Chicago West Pullman Transportation Corp., a holding company who also owned a railroad on the south side of Chicago. Georgia Woodlands Railroad
The Georgia Woodlands Railroad operates of track between Washington, Georgia, and Barnett, Georgia. Originally a subsidiary of the Chicago West Pullman Transportation Corporation, it was acquired by OmniTRAX in 1992. Great Western Railway Of Colorado
The Great Western Railway of Colorado operates about of track in Colorado and interchanges with the Union Pacific Railroad as well as the BNSF Railway. It is currently a subsidiary of OmniTRAX but was founded in 1902 to serve the Great Western Sugar Company and other sugar beet and molasses companies in Colorado, and built by another Great Western subsidiary, Loveland Construction Company. It also operated passenger services from 1917 to 1926. Their route consists of a line from Loveland to Johnstown, Colorado, where it splits to Miliken and Longmont. Going north out of Kelim is Windsor where once again the line splits to go to their industrial park and Greeley, or Fort Collins.
