Omer Kaleshi (1932 – 17 April 2022) was a Macedonian painter of Albanian descent from Srbica, Kičevo, Srbica village, Kičevo of North Macedonia. He began as a visual artist in Istanbul, Turkey, and lived in Paris, France. He was noted for his epic paintings of ancient Albanian people. Srbica, Kičevo
Srbica ( mk, Србица, sq, Sërbicë) is a village in the Municipalities of North Macedonia, municipality of Kičevo Municipality, Kičevo, North Macedonia. It used to be the largest village of the former municipality of Oslomej. History After the capture of the village by Yugoslav Partisans, Partisan forces, 49 Albanians from the village were executed by the incoming communist forces. Demographics The village is attested in the 1467/68 Ottoman tax registry (defter) for the Nahiyah of Kičevo, Kırçova. The village had a total of 83 houses, excluding bachelors (''mucerred''). According to the 1942 Italian protectorate of Albania (1939–1943), Albanian census, Srbica was inhabited by a total of 1176 Muslim Albanians. Ferid Murad (born September 14, 1936) is an American physician and pharmacologist, and a co-winner of the 1998 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. Early life Murad was born in Whiting, Indiana. His parents were Henrietta Josephine Bowman of Alton, Illinois and Xhabir Murat Ejupi, an Albanian immigrant from Gostivar in present-day North Macedonia. who subsequently changed his name to John Murad after being processed at Ellis Island in 1913. His mother was from a Baptist family and ran away from home in 1935, aged 17, to marry his father, who was 39 and Muslim. Leka, Prince of Albania (''Leka Anwar Zog Reza Baudouin Msiziwe Zogu'', born 26 March 1982) is a claimant to the throne of Albania and the head of the House of Zogu.
