Omeima Mudawi-Rowlings
Omeima Mudawi-Rowlings (, born April 1969) is a deaf British-Sudanese textile artist based in Brighton who is known for services to people with disabilities in the arts. Early life and education Omeima Osman Khalid Mudawi was born in April 1969, in Sudan. She became deaf when she was four years old, after a bout of meningitis, and lived in Khartoum until she was twelve. Then her family decided to leave Sudan, as her brother became deaf too. This was to give them better education and life opportunities than in Khartoum - according to Mudawi-Rowlings - there were no deaf schools or a deaf community, and teachers didn't understand her disability. However, her father remained in Sudan. Mudawi-Rowlings graduated from the Surrey Institute of Art & Design, University College in 1998 with a Bachelor of Arts in Textile Design, which provided her with the opportunity to employ natural dyes. Order Of The British Empire
The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire is a British order of chivalry, rewarding contributions to the arts and sciences, work with charitable and welfare organisations, and public service outside the civil service. It was established on 4 June 1917 by King George V and comprises five classes across both civil and military divisions, the most senior two of which make the recipient either a knight if male or dame if female. There is also the related British Empire Medal, whose recipients are affiliated with, but not members of, the order. Charles III (Charles Philip Arthur George; born 14 November 1948) is King of the United Kingdom and the 14 other Commonwealth realms. Kamala Ibrahim Ishaq
Kamala Ibrahim Ishaq (, born 1939) is a Sudanese painter and art teacher, known as one of the founders of The Crystalist conceptual art group in Khartoum. This group rejected common conventions in Sudanese modern painting of the 1960s and strived to find "an aesthetic and critical language that would emphasise the notions of pleasure and knowledge in order to permanently abolish differences and boundaries". Based on her artistic career spanning more than fifty years, Ishaq has been called one of the most important visual artists in Africa. Biography Ishaq was born in Omdurman and studied from 1959 to 1963 at the College of Fine and Applied Art of the Khartoum Technical Institute that later became the Sudan University of Science and Technology (SUST) in Khartoum. Ahmed Umar ( ar, أحمد عمر, born 10 February 1988) is a Sudanese-Norwegian visual artist and LGBT activist who campaigns for gay visibility. Umar grew up in a conservative family in Sudan, before fleeing to Norway where Umar artistic work mixes Sudanese (e.g., the Black Pharaohs of the ancient Kingdom of Kush) and western influences by blending stories as a foundation for the works. Their experience of coming out as one of the first openly gay Sudanese was detailed in the film The Art of Sin. Early life Ahmed Umar was born in Sudan, on the 10th of February 1988, into a traditional Sufi family that lived between Mecca and Sudan.
