Ombúes De Lavalle
Ombúes de Lavalle is a small city located in the north of Colonia Department in southwestern Uruguay. It is named after the Argentine General Juan Lavalle. The term «Ombúes» is the Spanish plural for «Ombú», a tree originary of the Pampas region, in southern South America, and a national symbol of both Argentina and Uruguay. Geography It is located near the border with the Soriano Department on Route 55, south of its intersection with Route 12, west-southwest of Cardona and east of Nueva Palmira. The town is located 119 meters above the sea level. The stream Miguelete, a main tributary of San Juan River, starts at the basin that lies directly southeast of the village. Uruguay consists of 19 departments (''departamentos''). Each department has a legislature called a Departmental Board. The ''Intendente'' is the department's chief executive. History The first division of the Republic into six departments occurred on 27 January 1816. In February of the same year, two more departments were formed, and in 1828 one more was added. When the First Constitution was signed in 1830, there were nine departments. Cardona is a city in the Soriano Department, in southwestern Uruguay. The main square of the city is Plaza Artigas, featuring a monument to General Artigas. Nueva Palmira is a city in Colonia Department in south-western Uruguay. Location It is located on the east bank of Uruguay River, about northwest of the departmental capital Colonia del Sacramento. Uruguay's calling code is +598. Since 2010, national long distance calling was eliminated, thus there are no area codes in each city. Landline telephony ANTEL (Spanish abbreviation for National Administration of Telecommunications) is Uruguay's state-owned company for telecommunications. Previously in Uruguay, phone numbers used to have between 4 and 7 digits. To make a local phone call, you only had to dial those digits. To make a call between two cities from different departments, you had to dial zero, plus area code, plus phone number. Soriano Department
Soriano () is a department of Uruguay. Its capital is Mercedes. It is located on the west of the country, south of RÃo Negro Department, north of Colonia Department and west of Flores Department. Its western border is the RÃo Uruguay, separating it from Argentina. History In 1624, a Franciscan Mission established a reduction for the indigenous tribes of the area named Santo Domingo Soriano.
