Omar Torrijos Herrera District
Omar Torrijos Herrera is a district in the Panamanian province of Colón, located approximately west of Panama City. It is named after Omar Torrijos, ''de facto'' leader of Panama from 1968 to 1981. Geography Omar Torrijos Herrera is located in the western part of Colón Province on the Atlantic side of the Panamanian cordillera. It borders the Donoso District of Colón Province to the west and north, and La Pintada District of Coclé Province to the east and south. The municipality covers an area of . The terrain is mountainous with steep slopes, and covered by rainforest. The Cocle del Norte River forms the district's eastern border with La Pintada. The district lies within the Donoso Multiple-Use protected area. Deforestation and pollution caused by mining are serious environmental concerns. 1981 Panamanian Air Force Twin Otter Crash
The 1981 Panamanian Air Force Twin Otter crash occurred on July 31, 1981, when a de Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter of the Panamanian Air Force, with identity code FAP-205, crashed at Marta Hill, in the community of Coclesito, in adverse weather conditions while on its final approach to the airport. All seven people on board, including General Omar Torrijos Herrera, who led the country's military dictatorship between 1968 and 1981, were killed. The investigation into the crash was surrounded by controversy and speculation about the circumstances of how the aircraft crashed. The crash occurred shortly after Ronald Reagan assumed office as President of the United States and three months after Ecuadorian president Jaime Roldós Aguilera died in similar circumstances. La Pintada is a corregimiento and town in La Pintada District, Coclé Province, Panama. It is the seat of La Pintada District. It has a land area of and had a population of 3,882 as of 2010, giving it a population density of . Its population as of 1990 was 3,515; its population as of 2000 was 3,733. The town is located in the hills northwest of Penonomé. The Coclé del Sur River runs along the edge of the town. Two kilometers from the town are located a variety of pre-Columbian petroglyphs. Cobre Mine, Panama
Cobre Panamá is a large open-pit copper mine in Panama, located 120 kilometres west of Panama City and 20 kilometres from the Caribbean Sea coast, in the district of Donoso, Colon province, in the Republic of Panama. The mine consists of four zones totalling 13,600 hectares. The main deposits are at Balboa, Botija, Colina and Valle Grande. With 3.1 billion tonnes of proven and probable reserves, Cobre Panama is one of the largest new copper mines opened globally since 2010. It is located next to the Petaquilla mine. This mine project was owned by Inmet Mining until 2013, when this company was taken over by First Quantum Minerals Ltd. (FQM). Construction continued over the next six years until 2019. Ngäbe
The Ngäbe are an indigenous people within the territories of present-day Panama and Costa Rica in Central America. The Ngäbe mostly live within the Ngäbe-Buglé comarca in the Western Panamanian provinces of Veraguas, Chiriquí and Bocas del Toro. They also have five indigenous territories in southwestern Costa Rica, encompassing 23,600 hectares: Coto Brus, Abrojos Montezuma, Conte Burica, Altos de San Antonio and Guaymi de Osa.
