Omar The Tentmaker (film)
''Omar the Tentmaker'' is a 1922 American silent drama film directed by James Young and featuring Guy Bates Post, Nigel de Brulier, Virginia Brown Faire, Noah Beery Sr., Patsy Ruth Miller, and Boris Karloff. It was produced and adapted by Richard Walton Tully from his own 1914 Broadway play ''Omar Khayyam the Tentmaker''. The film's tagline was "Would You Know How Omar Loved? Would you sweep 1,000 years aside to find Shireen, the Persian Rose, who wed Omar and awoke in the harem of the Shah?" (Print Ad in the Albuquerque Herald, ((Albuquerque NM)) 24 May 1923). The film is considered a lost film. Plot Omar the Tentmaker (Post) becomes an outcast because of his radical writings and improved calendar (Omar wrote the Iranian first solar calendar circa A.D. 1073). James Young (director)
James Young (January 1, 1872 – June 9, 1948) was an American film director, actor, and screenwriter of the silent era. Before films Young had a successful career as a stage actor appearing on Broadway and throughout the country, and was the author of a notable 1905 book on theatrical makeup. Young directed more than 90 films between 1912 and 1928. He also appeared as an actor in 60 films between 1909 and 1917. His first wife was librettist Rida Johnson Young who often composed with Victor Herbert. His second wife was film actress Clara Kimball Young, 18 years his junior, who kept his surname after they divorced. James Young died in New York City on June 9, 1948. Douglas Gerrard
Douglas Gerrard (12 August 1891 – 5 June 1950) was an Irish-American actor and film director of the silent and early sound era. He appeared in more than 110 films between 1913 and 1949. He also directed 23 films between 1916 and 1920. He was born in Dublin, Ireland and died in Hollywood, California. He was the brother of actor Charles K. Gerrard. Gerrard was a leading man in Kalem films. George Regas
George Thomas Regas (Greek: Γεώργιος Θωμάς Ρεγάκος; November 9, 1890 – December 13, 1940) was a Greek American actor. Biography Regis was born in the village of Goranoi near Sparta, Greece, the brother of actor Pedro Regas. He was a stage actor in Athens before coming to the United States. Evelyn Selbie (July 6, 1871 – December 7, 1950) was an American stage actress and performer in both silent and sound films. Biography Born in Louisville, Kentucky, as a young woman Selbie was a sidesaddle rider. She had a career which lasted twenty-five years on the stage. She began in Proctor's stock companies in New York after leaving her home. She acted in plays like ''Human Hearts'' and '' The Cat and the Canary''. In the former production she starred for two seasons. Selbie also acted in the stock theater company that operated at the Grand Theater in Reno, Nevada. Then she ventured west where she tenured 18 months at the old Central Theatre in San Francisco, California. This was followed by a season in stock in San Diego, California and then a long one in Alaska with T.D. Frawley. During the Alaska tour Evelyn alternated leads with Virginia Thornton.
