Omar Franco
Omar Franco, Dominican singer and composer, was born on a June 11 in the town of Castañuelas, in the province of Monte Cristi, Dominican Republic, but spent most of his childhood, reaching adulthood, in the city of La Vega. Beginnings Omar Franco began in the song when he won first place in the "Primer Festival de la Voz Vegana" (First Festival of Vegan Voice), in La Vega, in 1971. Then he joined the orchestra of Rafelito Martinez, as a singer of boleros. Then he was studying the first year at the Faculty of Medicine of the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo, but little later he stopped his studies to engage in an artistic career. Later he participated in the "V Festival de la Canción Dominicana", celebrated by AMUCABA (Association of musicians, singers, dancers and speakers) at the "Palacio de Bellas Artes" of Santo Domingo, in November 1972, with the song composed by him ''Por Ti''. Monte Cristi () is a Provinces of the Dominican Republic, province in the northwest of the Dominican Republic. The capital city is San Fernando de Monte Cristi (usually simply Monte Cristi). The spelling Montecristi is also seen. The Montecristi province is located in the Cibao frontier region, on the north coast of the country and borders the nation of Haiti. Altos De Chavón
Altos de Chavón is a tourist attraction, a re-creation of a 16th century Mediterranean–style village, located atop the Chavón River in the city of La Romana, Dominican Republic. It is the most popular attraction in the city and hosts a cultural center, an archeological museum, and an amphitheater. The project was conceived by the Italian architect Roberto Copa, and the industrialist Charles Bluhdorn. History The project began in 1976 when the construction of a nearby road and bridge crossing the Chavón River had to be blasted through a mountain of stone. Charles Bludhorn, chairman of Paramount then parent Gulf+Western, had the idea of using the stones to re-create a sixteenth-century style Mediterranean village, similar to some of the architecture found in the historic center of Santo Domingo. José Francisco Peña Gómez (6 March 1937 – 10 May 1998) was a politician from the Dominican Republic. He was the leader of the Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD), a three-time candidate for president of the Dominican Republic and former Mayor of Santo Domingo. He is considered, along with Joaquín Balaguer and Juan Bosch, as one of the most prominent Dominican political figures of the 20th century. Joaquín Antonio Balaguer Ricardo (1 September 1906 – 14 July 2002) was a Dominican politician, scholar, writer, and lawyer. He was President of the Dominican Republic serving three non-consecutive terms for that office from 1960 to 1962, 1966 to 1978, and 1986 to 1996. His enigmatic, secretive personality was inherited from the Trujillo era, as well as his desire to perpetuate himself in power through dubious elections and state terrorism, and he was considered to be a ''caudillo''.
