Omar Balafrej
Omar Balafrej ( ar, عمر بلافريج; born 26 October 1973) is a Moroccan politician, member of the Moroccan parliament since 2016, representing his hometown Rabat, and one of two members of Unified Socialist Party sitting currently in the parliament. Since 2014, he is also a board member of the African Innovation Foundation, providing strategic advice and technical support to strengthen the innovation landscape in Africa. Before being elected to the parliament, Balafrej was the CEO of MITC, a Moroccan public private partnership that manages Casablanca Technopark, and the president of the Abderrahim Bouabid Foundation (''ABF'') from 2009 to 2012. Rabat
Rabat (, also , ; ar, الرِّبَاط, er-Ribât; ber, ⵕⵕⴱⴰⵟ, ṛṛbaṭ) is the capital city of Morocco and the country's seventh largest city with an urban population of approximately 580,000 (2014) and a metropolitan population of over 1.2 million. Al Boraq () is a high-speed rail service between Casablanca and Tangier, operated by ONCF in Morocco. The first of its kind on the African continent, the high-speed service was inaugurated on 15 November 2018 by King Mohammed VI of Morocco, following over a decade of planning and construction by Moroccan national railway company ONCF. It is the first phase of a planned high-speed rail network in Morocco. Al Boraq trains operate over a dedicated high speed line, reaching speeds of up to 320 km/h on the 186 km sector between Tangier and Kenitra. The Moroccan protests are a series of demonstrations across Morocco which occurred from 20 February 2011 to the fall of 2012. They were inspired by other protests in the region. The protests were organized by the 20 February Movement. Origin The protests in Morocco were inspired by the Arab Spring protests and revolutions in other North African countries. They were centred around demands for political reform, which included reform against police brutality, electoral fraud, political censorship and high unemployment. Abderrahim Bouabid (in Arabic: عبد الرحيم بوعبيد –23; b. March 1922 in Salé – d. 8 January 1992 in Rabat) was a Moroccan politician, and head of the left-wing Socialist Union of Popular Forces (SUPF) between 1975 and 1992. Early life Bouabid was born in the Medina of Salé, on 23 March 1922. He studied primary school in his hometown, before attending high school in Rabat, at Moulay Youssef high school. During that time, he frequented a number of distinguished personalities who shaped the future of the country.
