Omar Abdallah Dakhqan ( ar, عمر عبد الله دخقان; died 19 November 2012) was a Jordanian politician. He served as Agriculture Minister in 1973. Jordan ( ar, الأردن; tr. ' ), officially the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan,; tr. ' is a country in Western Asia. It is situated at the crossroads of Asia, Africa, and Europe, within the Levant region, on the East Bank of the Jordan River. Jordan is bordered by Saudi Arabia to the south and east, Iraq to the northeast, Syria to the north, and the Palestinian West Bank, Israel, and the Dead Sea to the west. Hedjaz Jordan Railway
The Hedjaz Jordan Railway is one of the two successor railways to the famous Hedjaz Railway. When the Ottoman Empire collapsed in 1920, the Hedjaz Railway, formerly under Ottoman control, was divided into 2 railways: the Chemin de Fer de Hedjaz Syrie (CFH) and the Hedjaz Jordan Railway (HJR). The HJR operated the line of the Hedjaz railway in Jordan (at the time British Palestine). When Jordan was formed in 1946, the railway served as the state railway of Jordan, though it was not owned by the state. In 1975 the HJR built a line branch line from Ma'an to Aqaba, a port city. The line was later sold to the Aqaba Railway Corporation in 1979. The Hedjaz Jordan Railway still operates today between the Jordan/ Syria border, through Amman to Irbid. Jordan Phosphate Mines (JPMC) is a mining company based in Amman, Jordan. The company operates 3 mining facilities in Jordan and a chemical manufacturing complex in Aqaba. The company is listed on the Amman Stock Exchange's ASE Weighted Index as "JOPH". Background Jordan Phosphate Mines was founded in 1949. In 1986, JPMC bought the Jordan Fertilizer Company. JPMC already controlled 25% of the fertilizing company before its full acquisition. Jordan Fertilizer was operating a chemical and fertilizer manufacturing complex in Aqaba, which became the property of JPMC. In 2007, JPMC signed a memorandum of understanding with the Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative (IFFCO), India's largest fertilizer manufacturer. Jordan Valley Authority
The Jordan Valley Authority (JVA) is a government agency in Jordan tasked with carrying out socioeconomic development of Jordan's side of the Jordan Valley. The agency was established in 1977. It was a successor to the Jordanian Valley Authority, the Jordan River Tributaries Regional Cooperation and several other government departments related to the Jordan Valley. The JVA became responsible for water supply to Jordan's urban areas and agriculture. The JVA however did also play a role in land distribution as in the year of its founding a law established that all developed agricultural land could only be sold to the JVA. Maqarin dam The JVA, under its president Omar Abdallah Dakhqan, was tasked in 1977 to seek a solution for North Jordan's water shortage. The affected area also included the capital, Amman.
