Olympic Animal Sanctuary
The now defunct Olympic Animal Sanctuary (OAS) was located in Forks, Washington. It was a 501(c)3 non-profit animal sanctuary, founded in 2006. Overview The sanctuary's primary exempt purpose was, "Prevention of cruelty to animals". A Los Angeles Times article about the sanctuary, indicated some of the dogs were, "the worst of the worst from around the country." A People Magazine article about Steve Markwell outlined the purpose of the sanctuary, referring to it as a, "Last Chance for Bad Dogs." Allegations of animal abuse In December 2013, after allegations of animal abuse were made by former sanctuary volunteers and the sanctuary received negative publicity on television, Steve Markwell announced the sanctuary would be closing and he wanted to transfer the dogs to Best Friends Animal Society, in Utah. Forks, Washington
Forks, also previously known as the unincorporated town of Quillayute, is a city in southwest Clallam County, Washington, United States. The population was 3,335 at the 2020 census. It is named after the forks in the nearby Quillayute, Bogachiel, Calawah, and Sol Duc rivers. For many years, the city's economy was fueled by the local timber industry. More recently it has drawn tourism related to the novel series ''Twilight'' and films of the same name, set in Forks. Best Friends Animal Society, (BFAS) founded in its present form in 1993, is an American nonprofit 501(c)(3) animal welfare organization. BFAS does outreach nationwide with shelters, rescue groups and members to promote pet adoption, no-kill animal rescue, and spay-and-neuter practices. Golden Valley is an unincorporated area and census-designated place (CDP) in Mohave County, Arizona, United States. The population was 8,801 at the 2020 census. History Golden Valley was named after a company from Hollywood, California, that went into partnership with Crystal Collins to develop most of the land south of Arizona State Route 68 into parcels.
