Olympia Horse Show
The London International Horse Show, formerly the Olympia London International Horse Show, is one of the UK's biggest equestrian competitions. Previously held at Olympia, London, it has been hosted by ExCeL London since 2021. It is best known as the host of the UK legs of the FEI (International Equestrian Federation) World Cup series in dressage, show jumping and driving, however it also has multiple other showjumping classes, as well as fun competitions for example, The Shetland Pony Grand National and the Kennel Club Dog Agility. Each performance will also normally have two international equestrian displays. Some of the sessions are broadcast live by the BBC each year, and all sessions are streamed. It is held over six days in the week preceding Christmas, and involves over 400 horses and ponies. The Show, and many of the events in it, are Christmas themed. Ellen Whitaker
Ellen Whitaker (born 5 March 1986) is an English show jumping rider, currently ranked 191 on the FEI riders Longines Ranking list in July 2022. Career Competing since the age of 5, Whitaker has had much experience in the equestrian world and qualified for HOYS at just 8 years old. In 2006, Whitaker and her father Steven Whitaker were hit with a legal dispute over ownership of thirteen horses, including her top horse Locarno. However, a few months later a peace deal was made. In 2007, Whitaker represented Great Britain in the European Championships and helped allow Britain to qualify for the Olympics after jumping triple clear. She missed out on being selected for the 2008 Beijing Olympics due to lameness in horse Locarno 62. In 2010, Whitaker spoke to the press after refusing to jump for the British team due to a conflict with the British team manager, Rob Hoekstra. Carl Hester
Carl Hester (born 29 June 1967 in Cambridgeshire, England) is a British dressage rider competing at Olympic level. As of 8 August 2012 the Fédération Équestre Internationale (FEI) rank him 12th in the world riding Uthopia. In 2012, Hester formed part of the Great Britain Dressage team that won gold at the 2012 Summer Olympics. Early life and career Hester was raised by his mother and stepfather. He lived on the Channel Island of Sark from the age of four, and was educated at Elizabeth College in Guernsey. His biological father is the actor Tony Smee. Aged 19 he applied for a job with horses in the UK at The Fortune Centre of Riding Therapy and on the centre's skewbald mare, Jolly Dolly, he won the 1985 Young Dressage Rider Championship. Charlotte Fry
Charlotte Fry (born 11 February 1996) is an Olympic, European Championships and World Championships medal-winning British dressage rider. Personal story A daughter of Laura Fry, who competed at the 1992 Summer Olympic Games in Barcelona, Charlotte Fry started riding at a young age. Aged 14, she started training with Olympic Champion Carl Hester, having weekly lessons from the age of 16. Hester told former Danish Olympiad Anne van Olst about Fry, after which Fry moved to the Netherlands to train with van Olst. Since 2012 she has lived and worked alongside her boyfriend in the Netherlands. Charlotte Dujardin
Charlotte Susan Jane Dujardin (born 13 July 1985) is a British dressage rider, equestrian and writer. A multiple World and Olympic champion, Dujardin has been described as the dominant dressage rider of her era. She held the complete set of available individual elite dressage titles at one point: the individual Olympic freestyle, World freestyle and Grand Prix Special, World Cup individual dressage and European freestyle, and Grand Prix Special titles. Dujardin was the first rider to hold this complete set of titles at the same time. Mounted Games
Mounted Games is a branch of equestrian sport in which fast games are played on ponies up to a height of about . They require athletic ability, riding skills, hand-to-eye coordination, determination, perseverance, and a competitive spirit, which nevertheless requires an ability to work together with other riders and a willingness to help one another. Driving
Driving is the controlled operation and movement of a vehicle, including cars, motorcycles, trucks, buses, and bicycles. Dressage World Cup
The FEI World Cup Dressage Final is an annual international dressage series involving the world's best dressage horses and riders. It has been held since 1985. The World Cup is run in the form of a CDI. History The history of the World Cup Dressage Final is closely connected to the history of the Grand Prix Freestyle. In 1984 Joep Bartels (former rider, husband of Tineke Bartels and father of Imke Schellekens-Bartels) saw Reiner Klimke and ''Ahlerich'' perform the one tempi changes to John Williams' Olympic Fanfare at the 1984 Summer Olympics. Inspired by this, he thought of a freestyle dressage competition. One year later, the first World Cup Dressage Final was held. Show Jumping World Cup
The FEI Show Jumping World Cup is an annual international competition among the world’s best show jumping horses and riders. The series, created in 1978, today comprises 14 leagues on all continents. The best riders from 132 preliminary competitions qualify for the final. The FEI World Cup was thought up by a Swiss journalist and show jumping enthusiast, Max E. Ammann. From its inception until 1999 both the final and qualifiers were sponsored by Volvo. From 1999 to 2013, the series has been sponsored by Rolex. Longines has been the title sponsor of the series from October 2013. Approximately 45 riders qualify from 13 leagues around the world.
