Oluf Steen Julius Berner
Oluf Steen Julius Berner (23 September 1809 – 12 September 1885) was a Norwegian politician. He was born in 1809 in Laurvig. He was the son of merchant Joachim Berner and Karen Christine Berner, née Blom. In 1840, he married Marie Lovise Falkenberg, daughter of Christian Bugge Falkenberg (1781–1848) and Lovise Augusta (1791–1840), née Linaae. Larvik
Larvik () is a List of cities in Norway, town and Municipalities of Norway, municipality in Vestfold in Vestfold og Telemark Counties of Norway, county, Norway. The administrative centre of the municipality is the city of Larvik. The municipality of Larvik has about 46,364 inhabitants. The municipality has a 110 km coastline, only shorter than that of neighbouring Sandefjord. The city achieved market town status in 1671. Larvik was established as a municipality on 1 January 1838 (see formannskapsdistrikt). Carl Christian Berner (20 November 1841 – 25 May 1918) was a Norwegian politician for the Liberal Party. He was member of the Council of State Division in Stockholm 1891–92, and Norwegian Minister of Education and Church Affairs 1892–93. Background Berner was born in Oslo, Norway. He was the son of Oluf Steen Julius Berner (1809–55) and Marie Louise Falkenberg (1816–41). He studied science and mathematics before he started working as a teacher at several different schools in Oslo. Berner studied at the Royal Frederick University (now University of Oslo) where he earned his cand.philol. in 1861. In 1874 he was appointed director of the newly established polytechnical school of Bergen; a position he held until 1891. Kragerø () is a List of cities in Norway, town and Municipalities of Norway, municipality in Vestfold og Telemark Counties of Norway, county, Norway. It is part of the Districts of Norway, traditional regions of Grenland and the smaller Vestmar. The administrative centre of the municipality is the town of Kragerø. The Storting ( no, Stortinget ) (lit. the Great Thing) is the supreme legislature of Norway, established in 1814 by the Constitution of Norway. It is located in Oslo. The unicameral parliament has 169 members and is elected every four years based on party-list proportional representation in nineteen multi-seat constituencies. Assessor (law)
In some jurisdictions, an assessor is a judge's or magistrate's assistant. This is the historical meaning of this word. In common law jurisdictions, assessors are usually non-lawyers who sit together with a judge to provide either expert advice (such as on maritime matters) or guidance on local practices. The use of assessors nowadays is quite rare. In some jurisdictions, such as Fiji, assessors are used in place of juries. An assessor's opinion or view of a case is not binding on a judge. The term "assessor" is also very generally applied to persons appointed to ascertain and fix the value of rates and taxes, and in this sense the word is used in the United States (see Assessor (property)).
