Olivone was a municipality in the district of Blenio in the canton of Ticino in Switzerland. On 25 January 2005, the cantonal authorities announced that Olivone would merge with Aquila, Campo Blenio, Ghirone and Torre to form a new municipality to be called Blenio. Blenio
Blenio is a municipality of the district of Blenio, in the canton of Ticino, Switzerland. Blenio was created on 22 October 2006 when it incorporated the formerly autonomous municipalities of Aquila, Campo Blenio, Ghirone, Olivone and Torre of the upper Blenio valley. A legal challenge to the merger was raised by Aquila, but was rejected by the Federal Court on 18 April 2006. History Aquila is first mentioned in 1196 as ''Aquili''. Acquarossa is the capital of the district of Blenio in the canton of Ticino in Switzerland. The municipality was created on 4 April 2004 by a merger of Castro, Corzoneso, Dongio, Largario, Leontica, Lottigna, Ponto Valentino and Prugiasco. The village Acquarossa was located in Lottigna. The Blenio District is a district of the canton of Ticino in Switzerland. It has a population of (as of ). The capital of the district is Acquarossa. Geography The district has an area, , of . Of this area, or 3.7% is used for agricultural purposes, while or 36.9% is forested. Of the rest of the land, or 1.8% is settled (buildings or roads), or 1.6% is either rivers or lakes and or 39.7% is unproductive land. Of the built up area, housing and buildings made up 0.9% and transportation infrastructure made up 0.6%. Out of the forested land, 27.0% of the total land area is heavily forested and 2.6% is covered with orchards or small clusters of trees. Of the agricultural land, 2.5% is used for growing crops. Quinto, Switzerland
Quinto is a municipality in the district of Leventina in the canton of Ticino in Switzerland. History A grave from the early Iron Age has been found in the valley. The modern municipality of Quinto is first mentioned in 1227. The old '' Vicinanza'', whose statutes were first written in 1408, consisted of numerous '' degagne''. They owned alpine pastures, particularly on the Alp Piora, and the rights to provide donkeys or mules for freight transport over the passes. Quinto originally belonged to the parish of Biasca, but had already separated into an independent parish before the 12th Century. Greina
The Greina (el. 2355 m.) (Italian: ''Passo della Greina'', Romansh: ''Pass Crap'') is a high mountain pass across the western Lepontine Alps, connecting Sumvitg in the canton of Graubünden in Switzerland and Olivone in the canton of Ticino. The pass lies between the Piz Medel on the north and Pizzo Marumo, Piz Terri on the south. Greina is also a high plateau (''Plaun la Greina'') lying east of the pass, it is an alluvial site of national importance. The high plateau was in high risk of being flooded for a reservoir for many years. In the end this led to recompensation for the municipitalities of Vrin and Sumvitg as they have no income from this formerly planned powerplant.
