Olivier Vandecasteele
Olivier Vandecasteele is an experienced Belgian humanitarian aid worker who was arbitrarily arrested and taken state hostage in Iran on 24 February 2022. Following a sham trial, he was firstly sentenced to 28 years in December 2022, then sentenced to 40 years in prison and 74 lashes in January 2023. Vandecasteele was kept hostage "in unbearable conditions" in Iran for 456 days. He was released on 26 May 2023. His case is considered to be "a flagrant violation of international law" following a.o. the United Nations and Amnesty International. In 2024, he founded "Protect Humanitarians", an independent and neutral NGO which aims to a.o. advocate for a better protection of humanitarian aid workers around the world. ''Médecins du monde'' (MdM; ), or Doctors of the World, is an international humanitarian organization which provides emergency and long-term medical care to the world's most vulnerable people. It also advocates to end health inequities. It was founded in 1980 by a group of 15 French physicians, including Bernard Kouchner and Alina Margolis-Edelman (a native of Poland). MdM is active in over 80 countries with approximately 400 programs in both the developed and developing world. History MdM was formally established on 1 February 1980. Ahmad Reza Djalali
Ahmad Reza Djalali ( fa, احمدضا جلالی; born 15 September 1971) is an Iranian-Swedish disaster medicine doctor, lecturer, and researcher. He was accused of espionage and collaboration with Israel and sentenced to death. He has worked in several universities in Europe, among which Karolinska University of Sweden, where he had also attended his PhD program, Università degli Studi del Piemonte Orientale (Italy), Vrije Universiteit Brussel (Belgium). He also cooperated with universities in Iran and is in contact with universities worldwide. Djalali was arrested in April 2016 in Iran and sentenced to death on the charges of espionage and treason, in what human rights organizations said to be "a grossly unfair trial." Trial Of Hamid Nouri
The trial of Hamid Nouri, an Iranian official detained in Sweden, took place in November 2019. Nouri was found guilty of being a key figure in the 1988 executions of Iranian political prisoners, where according to different estimates between 2,800 to 30,000 Iranians were massacred. In early 2021 charges of murder and war crimes were filed against the former Iranian prosecutor, where Nouri was accused of "torture and inhuman treatment." The trial constituted the first time someone has been charged in relation to the 1988 massacre of political prisoners. Nouri was charged with more than 100 murders and "a serious crime against international law", and he is expected to provide evidence also implicating Ebrahim Raisi, president of Iran at the time of the trial. Johan Floderus (born 10 September 1990) is a Swedish diplomat and European Union official. He first started working for the European Commission in 2019, serving as an aide to the then-incumbent European Commissioner for Home Affairs, Ylva Johansson, before joining the European External Action Service two years later.
