Olivier Schwartz
Olivier Schwartz is a French pharmacist who, since 2018, has served as scientific director of the Institut Pasteur. Schwartz received his Ph.D. in virology from Paris 7 University and later joined the Institut Pasteur's Virus and Immunity Unit, where he studied HIV and the Zika virus, prior to his 2018 appointment as the institute's scientific director. The Pasteur Institute (french: Institut Pasteur) is a French non-profit private foundation dedicated to the study of biology, micro-organisms, diseases, and vaccines. It is named after Louis Pasteur, who invented pasteurization and vaccines for anthrax and rabies. The institute was founded on 4 June 1887, and inaugurated on 14 November 1888. For over a century, the Institut Pasteur has researched infectious diseases. Virology is the Scientific method, scientific study of biological viruses. ''Zika virus'' (ZIKV; pronounced or ) is a member of the virus family ''Flaviviridae''. It is spread by daytime-active ''Aedes'' mosquitoes, such as '' A. aegypti'' and '' A. albopictus''.
