Olena Burkovska
Olena Burkovska ( uk, Олена Бурковська; born on 9 August 1981 in Yahotyn, Kyiv Region) is Ukrainian long-distance runner who competes in marathons. She won the 86th Košice Peace Marathon on her debut over the distance. She broke the course record setting the time 2:30:50. Burkovska’s performance sliced 38 seconds from the 2:31:28 record set by Czech Alena Peterkova in 1989. At the 2010 Nagano Olympic Commemorative Marathon she finished second behind Lisa Jane Weightman, recording a time of 2:31:53. She placed fifth at the 2010 Berlin Marathon and managed 21st place at the 2011 World Championships in Athletics. Burkovska finished 48th at the 2012 London Olympics. She broke the course record at the Hannover Marathon in 2013, completing the distance in 2:27:07 hours. Marathon
The marathon is a long-distance foot race with a distance of , usually run as a road race, but the distance can be covered on trail routes. The marathon can be completed by running or with a run/walk strategy. There are also wheelchair divisions. The Istanbul Marathon ( tr, İstanbul Maratonu, also known as N Kolay Istanbul Marathon for sponsorship reasons) is an international athletics event hosted in Istanbul, Turkey, in November, first held in 1979. Hannover Marathon
The Hannover Marathon is an annual road running event featuring races over the marathon, half marathon and 10 km distance that is held in May in the city of Hannover, Germany. Over 15,000 people took part in the day's races at the 2011 edition of the event. The half marathon attracts the highest number of entries from the public (over 5000) while the marathon race typically features up to 2000 runners annually. Athletics At The 2012 Summer Olympics
The athletics competitions at the 2012 Olympic Games in London were held during the last 10 days of the Games, on 3–12 August. Track and field events took place at the Olympic Stadium in east London. The road events, however, started and finished on The Mall in central London. Over 2,000 athletes from 201 nations competed in 47 events in total, with both men and women having a very similar schedule of events. Men competed in 24 events and women in 23, of which 21 were the same for both. The women's schedule lacked the 50 km race walk and included 100 m hurdles and heptathlon as opposed to the men's 110 m hurdles and decathlon. The youngest participant in the athletics competition was Andorran 15-year-old Cristina Llovera while the oldest was 46-year-old Ukrainian Oleksandr Dryhol.
