Ole Kruse
Waldemar Thisenius Kruse, known as Ole (13 May 1868, Haderslev - 29 November 1948, Bokenäs, Uddevalla Municipality) was a Danish-Swedish painter. Biography His father was a master painter and he began his career in his father's workshop. He initially worked as a decorative painter, throughout Northern Europe and Scandinavia. It was in Germany, in 1879, that he married Sophie Agnes Schlotfeldt, the daughter of a master carpenter. His first appearance as an artist came in 1893, at the Nordic Exhibition in Christiania (Oslo), while he was working as a decorator for the National Theatre. But it would be another twenty years before he received major critical attention at exhibits in Stockholm and Helsinki. Örgryte
Örgryte is one of the 21 ''stadsdelsnämndsområden'' (a kind of district often translated as borough) of Gothenburg Municipality, Sweden. It is a largely upper middle class residential area, just to the east of the city centre. It has a population of 33,539 (2004), and covers an area of 10.67 square kilometres. History The original village of Örgryte is much older than the city of Göteborg, with construction in the area predating Göteborg. The original parish being much larger was subsequently absorbed by the city in a gradual process lasting from 1882 to 1922. Construction in the area predates the surrounding areas. The name Örgryte likely originates from the presence of several giant's kettles (''jättegryt'' lit. giant's ''gryt'' in Swedish) in the area. ''Svensk uppslagsbok'' is a Swedish encyclopedia published between 1929 and 1955, in two editions. First edition The first edition was started in 1929 by ''Baltiska förlaget AB'', but publishing was taken over by ''Svensk uppslagsbok AB'' in 1931. This edition consisted of 30 volumes and one supplement volume, and was completed in 1937. The articles in ''Svensk uppslagsbok'' were written by subject matter experts and signed. On the market, it competed with ''Nordisk familjebok'' in its third, condensed edition (1923–1937), and it aimed at being affordable for a large audience. Second edition A second, completely revised edition was published between 1947 and 1955, and consisted of 32 volumes. The publisher ''Svensk uppslagsbok AB'' was renamed ''Förlagshuset Norden AB'' in 1945. Göteborgs Konstmuseum
Gothenburg Museum of Art ( sv, Göteborgs konstmuseum) is located at Götaplatsen in Gothenburg, Sweden. It claims to be the third largest art museum in Sweden by size of its collection. Collections The museum holds the world's finest collection of late 19th century Nordic art. A highlight is the lavishly decorated Fürstenberg Gallery, named after a leading Gothenburg art donor, Pontus Fürstenberg and his wife Göthilda. Among the artists showcased are P.S. Krøyer, Carl Larsson, Bruno Liljefors, Edvard Munch, and Anders Zorn. The museum also houses older and contemporary art, both Nordic and international. Naïve Art
Naïve art is usually defined as visual art that is created by a person who lacks the formal education and training that a professional artist undergoes (in anatomy, art history, technique, perspective, ways of seeing). When this aesthetic is emulated by a trained artist, the result is sometimes called '' primitivism'', ''pseudo-naïve art'', or ''faux naïve art''. Unlike folk art, naïve art does not necessarily derive from a distinct popular cultural context or tradition; indeed, at least in the advanced economies and since the Printing Revolution, awareness of the local fine art tradition has been inescapable, as it diffused through popular prints and other media. John Ekman
John Ekman (15 November 1880 – 22 November 1949) was a Swedish film actor. Biography He first trained as an artist under Richard Bergh (1858-1919). He was employed by various theater companies; Swedish Biograft Theater in Kristianstad (1911 to 1917), Lorensbergsteatern in Gothenburg (1918–1923) and Helsingborgs stadsteater in Helsingborg (1923–1928) and from 1928 again at Lorensbergsteatern. He also appeared in 81 films between 1912 and 1949. Ivar Arosenius
Ivar Axel Henrik Arosenius (8 October 1878, Gothenburg - 2 January 1909, Älvängen) was a Swedish painter and picture book illustrator. Biography His father Henrik (1841-1901) was a railway engineer and Captain of the Road and Water Engineering Corps. He began by studying for the real estate trade then, in 1895, he received his first artistic training from an amateur watercolorist. The following year, he began formal studies at the Valand Academy, where he became friends with the sculptor, Gerhard Henning. He also took lessons at the School of Design and Crafts, in the department of decorative painting. In 1898, he was admitted to the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts, where he shared a studio with Henning. He was, however, dissatisfied with the teaching methods there and switched to the Konstnärsförbundets skola ('Artists' Association School'), where he studied with Richard Bergh.
