Ole Kjær
Ole Kjær (born 16 August 1954) is a Danish former footballer, who won the 1978 Danish ''Player of the Year'' award. He played as a goalkeeper, and most prominently represented Danish club Esbjerg fB, with whom he won the 1979 Danish Championship. He played 26 games for the Danish national team from 1977 to 1984, and represented Denmark at the 1984 European Championship. Club career Kjær began his professional career in 1974 with Esbjerg fB. Two years after, he was able to win the Danish Cup with Esbjerg. This was their first victory in the tournament since 1964 and only the second in the club's history. The team won 2–1 against Holbæk B&I. In the 1978 season, Kjær and his team finished runners-up, four points behind title winners Vejle Boldklub. They reached the final of the cup again, but had to admit defeat after three 1–1 draws and a penalty shoot-out against Frem. The 1st Division (''1. Division'') is the second-highest football league in Denmark, also known as NordicBet Liga for sponsorship reasons. From 1945 to 1991 the 1. Division was the name of the highest level of football in Denmark. With the formation of the Danish Superliga, the 1st Division became the second tier of Danish football. 1979 Danish 1st Division
The 1979 Danish 1st Division season was the 34th season of the Danish 1st Division league championship, governed by the Danish Football Association. It constituted the 66th edition of the Danish football championship, and saw Esbjerg fB win the championship title. The Danish champions qualified for the European Cup 1980-81, while the second placed teams qualified for the UEFA Cup 1980-81. The three lowest placed teams of the tournament were directly relegated to the Danish 2nd Division for the following season. The Danish football champions are the winners of the highest league of football in Denmark. The title has been contested since 1913, in a varying form of competitions. Since 1991, the winners have been found through the Danish Superliga championship. The Danish football championship is governed by the Danish Football Association (DBU). The early Danish football championships were decided in a single game, and the competition was not nationwide until its structure was altered before the 1927–28 season. Until the 1950s, the winners' list included teams exclusively from the Copenhagen area.
