Oldedalen
Oldedalen is a river valley in Stryn Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. The long valley runs north-south and ends at the Nordfjorden at the village of Olden. The south end of the valley reaches up to the great Jostedalsbreen glacier inside Jostedalsbreen National Park. The small Briksdalsbreen is a smaller arm that branches off the main Jostedalsbreen glacier, and it sits at the end of the Oldedalen valley. It is a tourist attraction due to its easy to reach location. The western side of the valley is a fairly steep wall of mountains with the Myklebustbreen glacier at the top. The lake Oldevatnet lies in the center of the valley for most of its length. At the north end of the valley, the lake empties into the river Oldeelva, which flows into the Nordfjorden. Stryn Municipality
Stryn is a municipality in the county of Vestland, Norway. It is located in the traditional district of Nordfjord. The administrative center of the municipality is the village of Stryn. The municipality is located along the innermost part of the Nordfjorden. Some of the main villages in Stryn include Loen, Innvik, Utvik, Randabygda, Olden, and Flo. Olden, Norway
Olden is a village and urban area in the municipality of Stryn in Vestland county, Norway. Olden is located at the mouth of the Oldeelva river at the northern end of the Oldedalen valley on the southern shore of the Nordfjorden. It is located about southwest of the village of Loen, about a drive southeast of the municipal center of Stryn, and about east of the village of Innvik. The village has a population (2019) of 479 and a population density of . Attractions Olden is a major tourist area. The cruise port in Olden had 102 cruise ship arrivals in 2019. Ljosheim Chapel
Ljosheim Chapel ( no, Ljosheim kapell) is a chapel of the Church of Norway in Stryn Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. It is located in the village of Mykløy at the southern end of the Oldedalen valley. It is an annex chapel in the Olden parish which is part of the Nordfjord prosti ( deanery) in the Diocese of Bjørgvin. The white, concrete chapel was built in 1924 using plans drawn up by the architect Andreas Sande. The chapel seats about 100 people. History The building was constructed in 1924 as a (a prayer house used for some church functions). In 1935, the building was renovated to give it a choir and sacristy so that it could be upgraded to the status of annex chapel. After the renovation the chapel had a long church design. The building was consecrated as a chapel on 22 October 1935. In 1970-1971, the entrance and the sacristy were expanded, and the rooms in the basement were renovated. By the 20th century, the old church had been deemed to be too small for the parish. Discussions were held on whether or not to renovate, expand, or replace the old church. Briksdalsbreen ( en, the Briksdal glacier) is one of the most accessible and best known arms of the Jostedalsbreen glacier. Myklebustbreen
Myklebustbreen or Snønipbreen is the seventh largest glacier in mainland Norway. It is located in the municipalities of Nordfjord, Gloppen, and Stryn in Vestland county. Its highest point is located just below the nunatak Snønipa, with an altitude of . The lowest point on the glacier is at an elevation of above sea level. The villages of Byrkjelo and Egge both lie on the European route E39 highway which runs north and south, about east of Myklebustbreen. The Oldedalen valley lies to the east of the glacier. Old Olden Church ( no, Olden gamle kyrkje) is a former parish church of the Church of Norway in Stryn Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. It is located in the village of Olden at the north end of the Oldedalen valley. River Valley
A valley is an elongated low area often running between hills or mountains, which will typically contain a river or stream running from one end to the other.
