Old Town, New Mexico
Old Town is a census-designated place (CDP) in Luna County, New Mexico, Luna County, New Mexico, United States. It was first listed as a CDP prior to the 2020 United States census, 2020 census. The community is on the northern edge of the county, bordered to the north and west by Grant County, New Mexico, Grant County. It sits on both sides of the Mimbres River as it flows southward towards Deming, New Mexico, Deming, the Luna county seat. U.S. Route 180 forms the southern edge of the CDP; the highway leads southeast to Deming and northwest to Silver City, New Mexico, Silver City. The Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) is a database of name and locative information about more than two million physical and cultural features throughout the United States and its territories, Antarctica, and the associated states of the Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, and Palau. Deming Public Schools is a public school district headquartered in Deming, New Mexico, United States. The district serves the city of Deming and the village of Columbus as well as all other areas in Luna County. Services to residents of Palomas, Chihuahua Deming Public Schools buses U.S. citizen students residing in Mexico (including the city of Palomas) from the United States-Mexico border to Columbus Elementary and to upper grades in Deming. As of the 2013–2014 school year, 421 residents of Palomas attend the schools of Deming Public Schools. Silver City, New Mexico
Silver City is a town in Grant County, New Mexico, United States. It is the county seat and the home of Western New Mexico University. As of the 2010 census the population was 10,315. As of the 2020 census, the population was 9,704. History The valley that is now the site of Silver City once served as an Apache campsite. With the arrival of the Spaniards, the area became known for its copper mining. After the American Civil War, a settlement developed and became known as "La Ciénega de San Vicente" (the Oasis of St. Vincent). Mimbres River
The Mimbres is a river in southwestern New Mexico. Course The Mimbres forms from snowpack and runoff on the southwestern slopes of the Aldo Leopold Wilderness in the Black Range at in Grant County. The river ends in the Guzmán Basin, a small endorheic basin east of Deming in Luna County. The uplands watershed are administered by the United States Forest Service, while the land in the Mimbres Valley is mostly privately owned. The upper reaches of the river are perennial. The river flows south from the Black Range, and the surface flow of the river dissipates in the desert north of Deming, but the river bed and storm drainage continue eastward, any permanent flow remaining underground. Area code 575 is a telephone area code in the North American Numbering Plan (NANP) for the U.S. state of New Mexico.
