Old Redcliffians
Old Redcliffians Rugby Football Club is an English rugby union team based in Brislington, a suburb of Bristol. The club runs four senior sides and a sevens team as well as a ladies side and the full range of junior teams. The first XV currently plays in National League 2 West, a level four league in the English rugby union system, following promotion from National League 3 South West in 2016–17. The 2011–12 season was successful for the other senior teams as they all achieved promotion; the second XV now play in the Tribute Somerset Premier, the third XV play in Tribute Somerset 1 and the fourth XV play in Tribute Somerset 2 North. The rugby club was formed in 1918 by former pupils of Redcliffe Boys School. South West Premier
Regional 1 South West (formerly South West Premier and National League 3 South West) is a level five league in the English rugby union system. It is one of six leagues at this level. When this division began in 1987 it was known as South West Division 1. The format of the league was changed at the beginning of the 2009–10 season following reorganisation by the Rugby Football Union, and the name change from National League 3 to South West Premier was introduced for the 2017–18 season by the RFU in order to lessen confusion for what is a series of regional leagues. Regional 1 South West, is the highest regional rugby union league covering South West England. The club finishing in first place is automatically promoted to National League 2 West. Somerset Rugby Football Union
The Somerset County Rugby Football Union (SCRFU) is the governing body for the sport of rugby union in the county of Somerset in England. The union is the constituent body of the Rugby Football Union (RFU) for Somerset. The SCRFU administers and organises rugby union clubs and competitions in the Somerset including the county rugby representative teams. History The first Somerset rugby team played against Devon at Taunton in the 1875–76 season and the Somerset County Rugby Football Union was founded at a meeting in Bridgwater in September 1882. Somerset Premier
Somerset Premier (known as Tribute Somerset Premier for sponsorship reasons) is an English rugby union league which sits at the eighth level of league rugby union in England involving teams based in the county of Somerset as well as some teams based in Bristol. Originally a single division called Gloucestershire/Somerset, in 2000 the division split into two county leagues called Gloucester Premier and Somerset Premier. The league champions of Somerset Premier are automatically promoted to Western Counties North while the runners up play the runners up of Gloucester Premier for their place. Relegated teams drop into Somerset 1. Only 1st XV sides can be promoted into Western Counties North, although any side can fall to Somerset 1. Ellis Genge
Ellis Genge (born 16 February 1995) is an English professional rugby union player who plays as a prop for Premiership Rugby club Bristol Bears. He made his international debut for in 2016. Genge played 26 times for Bristol in a first spell between 2013 and 2016, before joining Leicester Tigers where he played 111 times between 2016 and 2022. He was Leicester captain as they won the 2021-22 Premiership Rugby title. He is known for his aggressive ball carrying and gain line success. Graeme Beveridge (born 17 February 1976) is a rugby union manager who is a former rugby union footballer. He previously played at scrum-half for Edinburgh Rugby, Glasgow Warriors, Bristol and Scotland. Darren Barry (born 2 February 1990) is an English rugby union player who plays for Vannes in the Pro D2. Club career Barry was part of Bristol academy system where he enjoyed a loan spell at Clifton near Bristol. Barry made his senior debut when they beat Cornish Pirates 60-15 at Camborne in May 2010 and made his 50th appearance for Bristol winning against the Pirates won 50-22 in the British and Irish Cup at the Mennaye Field in September 2011. In July 2012, Barry left Bristol to join Cornish Pirates in the RFU Championship from the 2012-13 season. When the division was founded in 1987 it was a single league known as Somerset 3, but since 2006 it has been split into two regional divisions. Somerset 3 North currently involves teams from the northern part of Somerset as well as teams based in south and west Bristol. 1st, 2nd, 3rd and even 4th XV sides can participate in the division as long as they are not from the same club.
