Old Jail (Gordo, Alabama)
The Old Jail, also known as the Gordo Jail and Mayor's Office, is a historic former jail and office building in Gordo, Pickens County, Alabama. ''See also:'' The two-story brick structure was completed in 1914. It originally contained two jail cells and a mayor's office downstairs, with a courtroom upstairs. It served as jail and town hall until circa 1930, when everything but the jail moved to other premises. It continued to serve as a jail until 1955. It has served various functions since that time. Old Jail (Barnstable, Massachusetts)
Barnstable's Old Gaol is a historic colonial jail in Barnstable, Massachusetts. Built 1690, it is the oldest wooden jail in the United States of America. The jail was built by order of the Plymouth and Massachusetts Bay Colony courts. It served as the Barnstable County jail until 1820, when a new stone jail was built. The structure, which held about six prisoners, was eventually attached to a barn. In 1968 it was rediscovered, separated from the barn, and moved 100 feet onto the grounds of the Coast Guard Heritage Museum (located in the old Customshouse building) in Barnstable Village. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1971, and included in the Old King's Highway Historic District in 1987. Biggin Hill is a settlement on the south-eastern outskirts of Greater London, England, within the London Borough of Bromley. Within the boundaries of the historic county of Kent, prior to 1965 it was also in the administrative county of Kent. Old Jail, Biggin Hill
The Old Jail was a pub in Jail Lane, Biggin Hill, Westerham, Kent, in the London Borough of Bromley. At this time of writing, (February 2023), it is permanently closed. Its future use is unknown. It is a Grade II listed building, dating back to the 18th century. Partial history The Bromley Borough Local History Society and Biggin Hill History Group assert that it was used to hold French prisoners of war, overnight, during Napolionic times, who were being transported to Maidstone. Also, that it belonged to the 'Fox Brewery', of Green Street Green, which closed, in 1908; and that it was sold by auction on the 15th. June, 1909, to ' Truman, Hanbury and Buxton '. This is a list of properties and historic districts in Tennessee that are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. There are over 2,000 in total. Of these, 29 are National Historic Landmarks. Each of Tennessee's 95 counties has at least one listing. Old Scott County Jail (Huntsville, Tennessee)
The Old Scott County Jail is a historic former county jail at 125 West 2nd Street in Waldron, Arkansas. It is currently home to the Scott County Historical and Genealogical Society. The building is a two-story structure, built of fieldstone covered in concrete, with a flat roof and a stone foundation. It has a single entrance, which has sidelight windows, and its windows now have decorative shutters rather than iron bars. The jail was built in 1907–08, and was used for its original purpose until the 1930s, when it was adapted (with funding from the Works Progress Administration) for use as Waldron's public library. The library occupied the building between 1938 and 1947, and it was used for a time by local Boy Scout and Girl Scout organizations. It has housed the historical society since 1987.
