Old City Of Freiburg
The Old City of Freiburg is part of the city and business centres of Freiburg im Breisgau and is the core of the original city. It is divided into the two districts 111 ''Altstadt-Mitte'' and 112 ''Altstadt-Ring''. The ''Altstadt-Mitte'' district was the city's build-up area at the time of its foundation and therefore formed the old city. The district ''Altstadt-Ring'' is connected westwards to the railway line and south to the Dreisam. At the end of 2020, about 7,500 people were reported as inhabitants of this district. The district of ''Altstadt-Mitte'' was designed according to the pattern of all cities founded by the Zähringers. A street cross divides the city into four quarters, the church and the city hall are not located in the same district. Schlossberg (Freiburg)
The Schlossberg () is a tree-covered hill of located in the area of the city of Freiburg im Breisgau. It is directly to the east of Freiburg's Old Town and is part of the Black Forest. The main geological fault is at the western edge of the Schlossberg, towards the Upper Rhine Graben. General information Fortified structures had been built on the Schlossberg since the 11th century. Remains of some of them are still visible today. For a few years now, the board of trustees has tried to make the historical past of the Schlossberg in Freiburg more visible. To achieve this, the remains of the old, overgrown fortifications are being carefully uncovered to make them available to interested visitors. Freiburg Hauptbahnhof
Freiburg Hauptbahnhof is the main railway station in the German city of Freiburg im Breisgau. The Rhine Valley Railway (Mannheim–Basel), Höllentalbahn ("Hell Valley Railway", Freiburg–Donaueschingen) and the Breisach Railway (Breisach–Freiburg) meet here. The station is located on the western outskirts of the Old Town of Freiburg, about a kilometre from Freiburg Minster at 5–7 Bismarckallee. Konzerthaus Freiburg
The Freiburg Konzerthaus is a concert hall in Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany, that was opened to the public in 1996. Based on plans by architect Dietrich Bangert, the building is used for concerts and performances, as well as conventions and meetings. Theater Freiburg is a theatre in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Freiburg Theatre, sometimes also referred to as Stadttheater Freiburg (Freiburg municipal theatre), formerly Städtische Bühnen (Municipal Stages) Freiburg, is the oldest and biggest theatre in Freiburg im Breisgau. Aussichtsturm Schlossberg
The Schlossbergturm or Castle Hill Tower is a 35 m high observation tower on Castle Hill Schlossberg (Freiburg), Schlossberg on the edge of the historic Old Town (Freiburg im Breisgau), Altstadt of Freiburg im Breisgau. It has 153 steps, its top is located 463 m above sea level and thus 185 m above the average altitude of the city (278 m). The tower's twisted design includes six tree trunks (Douglas-firs from the municipal forest of Freiburg) around a staircase made of steel. It has three platforms and the top is reached by a small spiral staircase. The tower offers a panoramic view of Freiburg and its surroundings. The tower is built on the grounds of the Fort de l'Aigle von Auban, also known locally as "Salzbüchsle", which are a continuation of the Black Forest into the city of Freiburg. Freiburg Bächle
The Freiburg Bächle are small water-filled runnels or formalised rills in the Black Forest city of Freiburg. They are supplied with water by the Dreisam and can be seen along most streets and alleyways in the old city, being one of the city's most famous landmarks. The word ''Bächle'' comes from the German ''Bach'', meaning brook, with the Alemannic diminutive ending ''-le''. History First documented in the 13th century, the Bächle once served as a water supply and were used to help fight fires. In the 19th century they were seen as obsolete, and most of them were covered with iron plates. Bertoldsbrunnen
The Bertoldsbrunnen ("Bertold's Fountain") is a monument in the historic city of Freiburg im Breisgau. It is situated at the crossing of the Salzstraße (Salt Road in Freiburg im Breisgau), Salz- and Bertoldsstraße with the Kaiser-Joseph-Straße. The fountain is one of the central locations of the city. A tram station with the same name is situated at the Bertoldsbrunnen where four of the five tramways of the Freiburger Verkehrs AG stop. The Martinstor (English ''Martin's Gate''), a former town fortification on Kaiser-Joseph-Straße, is the older of the two gates of Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany, that have been preserved since medieval times. Both gates, the Martinstor and the Schwabentor, are located in the city centre. In medieval times the Martinstor was also known as ''Norsinger Tor''.
