Olaf Schmidt
Olaf Schmidt (born 1962) is a German glider aerobatic pilot. He joined his gliding club, '' Bremer Verein für Luftfahrt e.V.'', at the age of 13, gaining his glider pilot licence at the age of 16 and a glider and his motor glider instructor rating in 1983 at the age of 21. Since 1984, he has assisted at glider aerobatic courses as a tow pilot. He obtained a glider aerobatics rating in 1987. In 1994 he competed in a glider aerobatic competition in the advanced category for the first time. The 1998 German National Championship was his first competition in the unlimited category. He became a member of the German National Glider Aerobatics Team in 2001. Glider (sailplane)
A glider or sailplane is a type of glider aircraft used in the leisure activity and sport of gliding (also called soaring). This unpowered aircraft can use naturally occurring currents of rising air in the atmosphere to gain altitude. Sailplanes are aerodynamically streamlined and so can fly a significant distance forward for a small decrease in altitude. In North America the term 'sailplane' is also used to describe this type of aircraft. In other parts of the English-speaking world, the word 'glider' is more common. Types Gliders benefit from producing the least drag for any given amount of lift, and this is best achieved with long, thin wings, a slender fuselage and smooth surfaces with an absence of protuberances. Rybnik (Polish pronunciation: ; szl, Rybńik) is a city in southern Poland, in the Silesian Voivodeship, around 38 km (24 mi) southwest of Katowice, the region's capital, and around 19 km (11 miles) from the Czech border. Aerobatic Pilots
Aerobatics is the practice of flying maneuvers involving aircraft attitudes that are not used in conventional passenger-carrying flights. The term is a portmanteau of "aerial" and "acrobatics". Aerobatics are performed in aeroplanes and gliders for training, recreation, entertainment, and sport. Additionally, some helicopters, such as the MBB Bo 105, are capable of limited aerobatic manoeuvres. An example of a fully aerobatic helicopter, capable of performing loops and rolls, is the Westland Lynx. Most aerobatic manoeuvres involve rotation of the aircraft about its longitudinal (roll) axis or lateral (pitch) axis. Radom
Radom is a city in east-central Poland, located approximately south of the capital, Warsaw. It is situated on the Mleczna River in the Masovian Voivodeship (since 1999), having previously been the seat of a separate Radom Voivodeship (1975–1998). Rothenburg/Oberlausitz (Upper Sorbian ''Rózbork'') is a small Lusatian town in eastern Saxony, Germany on the Neisse river on the German-Polish border. It has a population of 4,405 (2020).
