Ola Hermundsen Berge
Ola Hermundsen Berge (31 December 1768 – 28 December 1825) was a Norwegian folk artist and rose painter. Berge was born at Sør-Aurdal in Oppland, Norway. He received training for his folk art in the traditional region of Valdres. A common feature of his work are elongated S-shaped lily leaves that grow from the same starting point. He painted chests, doors, cabinets as well as interiors of churches. His first major work was the decor of Aurdal Church (''Aurdal kirke'') and Skrautvål Church (''Skrautvål Kirke'') from 1795. Ulnes Church
Ulnes Church ( no, Ulnes kyrkje) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Nord-Aurdal Municipality in Innlandet county, Norway. It is located in the village of Ulnes. It is the church for the Ulnes parish which is part of the Valdres prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Hamar. The white, stone church was built in a long church design around the year 1265 using plans drawn up by an unknown architect. The church seats about 170 people. History The earliest existing historical records of the church date back to the year 1307, but the church was not built that year. The long church is built of stone with masonry reflecting a transition between the Romanesque and Gothic style, both of which can be found in the church. Based on its historical style and masonry, it was probably built around the year 1265. The Norwegian Institute for Cultural Heritage Research used dendrochronology to date part of the roof construction which showed that the church was likely built in 1265 or 1266. The ... Lomen Stave Church ( no, Lomen stavkyrkje) is a stave church of the Church of Norway in Vestre Slidre Municipality in Innlandet county, Norway. It is located in the village of Lomen. It was formerly the church for the Lomen parish which is part of the Valdres prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Hamar. The brown, wooden church was built in a long church design around the year 1192 using plans drawn up by an unknown architect. The church seats about 150 people. History The earliest existing historical records of the church date back to the year 1325, but the church was not new that year. The wooden stave church was established during the late 12th century. Through 20th-century dendrochronological dating the logs of the church were dated to the year 1192, so the church must have been built around that time.
