Okyanus Arıkan (born 8 July 2004) is a Turkish yacht racer. She qualified to participate at the Sailing at the 2020 Summer Olympics. Okyanus Arıkan was born in İzmir on 8 July 2004. She began with sailing sport at the age of six. Already at age of ten, she was admitted to the Turkey national sail team, and became so her country's youngest national sportsperson. She won several competitions at national and international level. She competed in the Optimist class before she transferred to the Four-Seventy class. She is a member of the ARM Urla Sail Club in Urla, İzmir. She is also an orange belt in kickboxing. 470 (dinghy)
The 470 (Four-Seventy) is a double-handed monohull planing dinghy with a centreboard, Bermuda rig, and centre sheeting. Equipped with a spinnaker, trapeze and a large sail-area-to-weight ratio, it is designed to plane easily, and good teamwork is necessary to sail it well. The name comes from the boat's length of . The 470 is a popular class with both individuals and sailing schools, offering a good introduction to high-performance boats without being excessively difficult to handle, but it is not a boat designed for beginners. Sailing At The 2020 Summer Olympics
Sailing competitions at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo took place from 25 July to 4 August 2021 at the Enoshima Yacht Harbor in Enoshima. The venue was also used for the 1964 Olympic Games although significantly regenerated, the IOC now encouraging regeneration, cost reductions and sustainability. The RS:X, Laser, Laser Radial, Finn, 470, 49er, 49erFX, and Nacra17 are all returning for 2020; there are no significant changes to the Olympic programme from 2016. Competition format Qualification The number of sailors competing has been reduced from 380 to 350, with an equal numbers of male and female athletes for the first time ever. Optimist (dinghy)
The Optimist is a small, single-handed sailing dinghy intended for use by young people up to the age of 15. The Optimist is one of the two most popular sailing dinghies in the world, with over 150,000 boats officially registered with the class and many more built but never registered. It is sailed in over 120 countries and it is one of only two sailboats as an International Class by World Sailing exclusively for sailors under 16. Origin The Optimist was designed in 1947 by American Clark Mills at the request of the Clearwater Florida Optimist service club following a proposal by Major Clifford McKay to offer low-cost sailing for young people. Urla (, Vourlá) is a town and the center of the district of the same name in İzmir Province, in Turkey. This article details the qualifying phase for sailing at the 2020 Summer Olympics . 350 quota places for the Games are entitled to the sailors coming from their respective NOCs, based on the results at designated regattas supervised by World Sailing.
