State Highway 120, also abbreviated as SH-120 or OK-120, is a highway in the eastern part of the state of Oklahoma, USA. It connects to State Highway 112 (Oklahoma), SH-112 at Rock Island, Oklahoma, Rock Island on its western end and passes through Le Flore County, Oklahoma, Le Flore County to the Arkansas state line, where it becomes Highway 10 (Arkansas), Highway 10 running to Little Rock, Arkansas, Little Rock. Route description Highway 120 begins at SH-112 and heads due east. It serves the town of Rock Island. Near its midpoint, SH-120 crosses Ivy Branch. It then has a railroad crossing. The road curves to the south as it passes through an area of sandy terrain. The highway then ends at the Arkansas state line, west of Hackett, Arkansas. State Highway 112 is a 24.6 mi (39.6 km) state highway in Le Flore County, Oklahoma. It connects Poteau to Arkoma. It has no lettered spur routes. Route description SH-112 begins at an intersection with US-59/271 in Poteau, continuing the alignment of the Poteau Bypass. It continues northeast from the intersection, intersecting a railroad at-grade and crossing the Poteau River. The highway then clips the west edge of Cameron. Northeast of Cameron, the road crosses over James Fork. In Rock Island, Highway 112 serves as the western terminus of State Highway 120. At SH-120, it turns more northerly and crosses Backbone Mountain. On the far side of the mountain, SH-112 passes through Pocola. On the north side of town, the highway intersects US-271/ SH-9. Rock Island is a town in Le Flore County, Oklahoma, United States. It is part of the Fort Smith, Arkansas-Oklahoma Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 646 at the 2010 census, a decline of 8.9 percent from the figure of 709 recorded in 2000. History The Fort Smith and Southern Railway built a north–south line through what is now Le Flore County in 1886; the line was sold the next year to the St. Louis and San Francisco Railroad ("the Frisco"). In 1903–04 the Midland Valley Railroad laid an east-west line. The settlement originally known as Maney Junction developed at the crossing of these railroads. A post office was established as Rock Island, Indian Territory on February 1, 1905. It was presumably named for Rock Island, Illinois. LeFlore County is a county along the eastern border of the U.S state of Oklahoma. As of the 2010 census, the population was 50,384. Its county seat is Poteau. The county is part of the Fort Smith metropolitan area and the name honors a Choctaw family named LeFlore. The United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma is the federal district court with jurisdiction in LeFlore County.
