"Ojalá Que Llueva Café" (English "Hope That It Rains Coffee") is the lead single by the Dominican artist Juan Luis Guerra and his band 4:40 from their fourth studio album of the same title. It was released on 1989 by Karen Records and 1990 in Europe by Ariola Records. The lyrics are a poetic metaphor about the poor conditions of the hard-working people residing in the countryside and the hope that the things are going be better someday in the future. It is one of Guerra’s signature songs and one of the first tracks to gain international attention in his career, peaking on the Billboard Hot Latin Tracks and Latin America airplay charts. The music video was ranked number one of the top 15 best music videos of all time by Dominican artists. Juan Luis Guerra Seijas (born June 7, 1957) is a Dominican musician, singer, composer, and record producer. He has sold 30 million records worldwide, making him one of the best-selling Latin music artists. Throughout his career, he has won numerous awards including 23 Latin Grammy Awards, three Grammy Awards, and one Latin Billboard Music Award. Guerra won 3 Latin Grammy Awards in 2010, including Album of the Year. In 2012, he won the Latin Grammy Award for Producer of the Year. Merengue Music
Merengue is a type of music and dance originating in the Dominican Republic, which has become a very popular genre throughout Latin America, and also in several major cities in the United States with Latino communities. Merengue was inscribed on November 30, 2016 in the representative list of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity of UNESCO. Merengue was developed in the middle of the 1800s, originally played with European stringed instruments ( bandurria and guitar). Years later, the stringed instruments were replaced by the accordion, thus conforming, together with the güira and the tambora, the instrumental structure of the typical merengue ensemble. This set, with its three instruments, represents the synthesis of the three cultures that made up the idiosyncrasy of Dominican culture. Café Tacvba (Pronounced ''kaˈfe taˈkuβa'') is a band from Ciudad Satélite, Mexico. The group gained popularity in the early 1990s. Avalancha de Éxitos (in Spanish: ''Avalanche of Hits'') is Café Tacuba's third album. In 1996, two years after their acclaimed ''Re'', the band had amassed enough new music to fill four CDs, but couldn't winnow it down to a single album. So instead, they covered eight songs by other Spanish-speaking artists, who ranged from totally obscure to well-known. ''Grandes Éxitos de Juan Luis Guerra y 440'' or simply ''Grandes Éxitos'' is a compilation album of Dominican singer-songwriter Juan Luis Guerra, and his band 440 released in July 1995 by Karem Records. It contained Guerra's fifteen biggest hits from 1988 to 1994 on the original version and from the albums ''Mudanza y Acarreo'' ''(1985) to Fogarate! (1994)'' on the international versions. The compilation receive positive reviews by the critics. Among the tracks are two songs from the controversial album '' Áreito'' that was said to have anti-capitalist tendencies. Although Guerra decieded to quit recording protest songs, he included these two tracks, of which '' El costo de la vida'' was his first number-one hit in the Hot Latin Tracks.
