Ohio Roller Derby (OHRD) is a women's flat track roller derby league based in Columbus, Ohio. Founded in 2005, the league currently consists of two mixed teams which compete against teams from other leagues. Ohio Roller Derby is a founding member of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). League history Ohio Roller Derby was founded as the Ohio Roller Girls (OHRG) in April 2005 by Melissa "Scarlette Fury" Wallace, with the first bout held in Battelle Hall at the Greater Columbus Convention Center on April 23, 2006. In 2007, the league began holding bouts at the Lausche Building at the Ohio State Fairgrounds, by which point they were drawing roughly 1,000 fans to events. In 2007, the league hosted the first WFTDA Eastern Regional Tournament, Heartland Havoc. Twelve teams from the East Region of the WFTDA competed, with Gotham Girls Roller Derby (New York City) winning the tournament. The Ohio State Fair is one of the largest state fairs in the United States, held in Columbus, Ohio during late July through early August. As estimated in a 2011 economic impact study conducted by Saperstein & Associates; the State Fair contributes approximately 68.5 million United States dollar, dollars to the state's economy. In 2015, attendance was 982,305, the Fair's highest 12-day attendance on record. From the first three-day Fair in 1850 in Cincinnati, Ohio, Cincinnati to the 12-day exposition of today (from 1981 to 2003, the Fair lasted 17 days), the Ohio State Fair has celebrated Ohio's products, its people, and their accomplishments. Arch Rival Roller Derby
Arch Rival Roller Derby, or ARCH, is a women's flat-track roller derby league in St. Louis, Missouri. Founded in 2005, Arch Rival is a member of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). History Arch Rival Roller Derby was founded as "Arch Rival Roller Girls" (ARRG) in 2005 by Sarah Kate Buckles, who skates as Mary Manglin'. The league was trained from January 2006 through May 2007 by coach Ken Watts, AKA "Papa Wheelie." In 2006 ARRG competed locally as 2 teams, each represented by one of the league colors, pink and black. In 2007, ARRG expanded to three home teams, the Stunt Devils, the M-80s and the Smashinistas. A travel team, composed of select skaters, played Arch Rival's first WFTDA-sanctioned game against the Windy City Rollers of Chicago on January 5, 2008, a 95-49 Windy City win. Women's Flat Track Derby Association Division 2
The Women's Flat Track Derby Association Division 2 (WFTDA Division 2) was the second-highest level of play in women's flat track roller derby from 2013 through 2017. Comprising different structures over that time, in early 2018 the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) announced it was replacing the Division 2 Playoffs with geographically-based Continental Cups, the structure and quantity of which is expected to adjust and possibly expand over time. Organisation Historically, the WFTDA divided member leagues into four geographical regions: East, North Central, South Central and West. At the start of 2013, these were redivided into three divisions, each operating worldwide. No Coast Derby Girls
The No Coast Roller Derby is a co-ed flat track roller derby league based in Lincoln, Nebraska. Founded in 2005, the league currently consists of two mixed teams which compete against teams from other leagues. No Coast is a member of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). League history The league was founded after a Lincoln-based band toured to Austin, Texas, and got to know members of Texas Rollergirls. This inspired Jackie Geist and her friends to establish No CoastCara Pesek,Domesticated roller derby just for the grrrrls, ''Lincoln Journal Star'', 27 August 2005 in Lincoln, the home of the National Museum of Roller Skating. Rideau Valley Roller Girls
Ottawa Valley Roller Derby (OVRD) is a flat track roller derby league based in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. The league was created from a merger in 2018 between two local leagues that had been formed in 2008: Rideau Valley Roller Derby and Capital City Derby Dolls. The originator league joined the WFTDA Apprentice Program in 2011, graduating as a full member of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) in June 2012. Houston Roller Derby
Houston Roller Derby (HRD) is a women's flat track roller derby league based in Houston, Texas. HRD was founded in early 2004, and is a founding member league of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). History Originally formed in early 2004 as the Space City Rollergirls, Houston Roller Derby split from their founding group in the pursuit of an all-skater owned league, after the founding members of Space City attempted to fire the league's coed training team. The new league focused on democratic leadership, with decisions made by committees with elected leaders. Steel City Roller Derby or SCRD, is a women's flat-track roller derby league based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Founded in 2006, the league celebrated its tenth anniversary in 2016. Steel City is a member of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). Jacksonville Roller Derby is a women's flat track roller derby league based in Jacksonville, Florida, (USA). Originally formed as the First Coast Fatales, the league became Jacksonville RollerGirls in 2007, and changed to its current name in 2018. The league has been a member of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) since December 2010. Rat City Roller Derby is a women's flat-track roller derby league in Seattle, Washington. Founded in 2004 as Rat City Rollergirls, LLC, the league has incorporated alternative cultural influences, and has inspired and mentored other leagues.
