Ohio's 18th Senatorial District
Ohio's 18th senatorial district has been established in northeastern Ohio, primarily along the shore of Lake Erie. It currently consists of Portage County and portions of Cuyahoga, Lake and Geauga counties. It encompasses Ohio House districts 61, 75 and 76. It has a Cook PVI of R+1. Its current Ohio Senator is Republican Jerry Cirino. Ohio () is a state in the Midwestern region of the United States. The Ohio Republican Party is the Ohio affiliate of the Republican Party. It was founded in Columbus, Ohio, in 1854. History After the Civil War, Ohio politics was dominated by the Republican Party, and Ohio Republicans also played key roles in the national party. As the national Republican Party changed from a party affiliated with Northern states into a staunchly conservative party, so did the Ohio Republican Party. John Eklund (Ohio Politician)
John J. Eklund is a former Republican Party (United States), Republican member of the Ohio Senate for the 18th district. He was appointed in November 2011 to replace Tim Grendell, who was appointed as a judge in Geauga County, Ohio, Geauga County. The selection committee considered thirteen candidates for the appointment. He is the Chairman of the Senate Criminal Justice Committee. Eklund then went on to win the 2012 election for a full-term, winning with 54.7% of the vote. His district includes all of Portage County, Ohio, Portage County along with half of Lake County, Ohio, Lake County and most of Geauga County. Career Eklund joined law firm Calfee, Halter & Griswold in 1980, and became a partner in 1988. He specialises in antitrust law. Tim Grendell
Timothy J. Grendell (born April 17, 1953) is a Republican politician who serves as judge on the Geauga County Court of Common Pleas. He was a member of the Ohio Senate from 2005 to 2011, and of the Ohio House of Representatives from 2000 until 2004. Timothy Grendell was appointed to the Geauga County Court of Common Pleas as the Juvenile and Probate judge in 2011 by then Governor John Kasich after leaving Columbus, OH. After seeking election again, running unopposed in 2020, he is currently Geauga Counties elected judge. Marcus Aurelius Roberto (November 26, 1930 – February 24, 1986), a Democrat, was a member of the Ohio General Assembly. Ohio Senate
The Ohio Senate is the upper house of the Ohio General Assembly. The State Senate, which meets in the Ohio Statehouse in Columbus, first convened in 1803. Senators are elected for four year terms, staggered every two years such that half of the seats are contested at each election. Even numbered seats and odd numbered seats are contested in separate election years. The president of the Ohio Senate presides over the body when in session, and is currently Matt Huffman.
