Ohingaiti Railway Station
Ōhingaiti railway station was a station on the North Island Main Trunk in New Zealand. Contracts to build the line north of Ōhingaiti were being let in 1892. The line was in place by 1893, but remained unused for many years, until completion of the Makōhine Viaduct. The station site was cleared of bush in 1894 and fenced in 1896. Plans for a station and a ballast pit, to the north, were made in 1901, with contracts signed by 18 February 1902. Makōhine Viaduct was opened on 17 June 1902 and the special train ran on, via Ōhingaiti, to Mangaweka. Dates from 3 July to 30 August 1902 are mentioned for opening goods traffic on the line from Mangaonoho to Mangaweka and 30 October for its inspection. The North Island Main Trunk (NIMT) is the main railway line in the North Island of New Zealand, connecting the capital city Wellington with the country's largest city, Auckland. The line is long, built to the New Zealand rail gauge of and serves the large cities of Palmerston North and Hamilton. Mangaweka Railway Station
Mangaweka railway station was a station on the North Island Main Trunk, serving the village of Mangaweka in the Manawatū-Whanganui region of New Zealand. The original station opened in 1902 and closed on 15 November 1981. A new station then opened to the east, on the Mangaweka deviation on 18 November 1981, though only for parcels, small lots, and as a passing loop, which still remains. Mangaonoho Railway Station
Mangaonoho railway station was a station on the North Island Main Trunk in New Zealand. For almost a decade, from 1893 to 1902, Mangaonoho was important as the northern terminus of the NIMT's southern section; even a refreshment room was planned. The route north was delayed by construction of major viaducts, the first being Makōhine. To build Makōhine a railway workshop was set up just north of Mangaonoho. Unlike many other NIMT construction camps, Mangaonoho gradually declined after the line was completed. By 1911 the population was down to 167. Decline continued, with removal of the stockyards in 1973 and closure in 1982. There is now only a single line through the former station site. A gravel pit is an open-pit mine for the extraction of gravel. Gravel pits often lie in river valleys where the water table is high, so they may naturally fill with water to form ponds or lakes.
