Ohaton
Ohaton is a hamlet in central Alberta, Canada within Camrose County. Previously an incorporated municipality, Ohaton dissolved from village status on January 1, 1946. Ohaton is located approximately east of the City of Camrose. The Ohaton post office was opened in 1906 with the name "Ohaton" being a portmanteau of the partners Osler, Hammond and Nanton of a notable Winnipeg financial firm. Nanton, another community in Alberta, is also named for Augustus Meredith Nanton of the same firm. Ohaton and area's topography is rounded hills with a small river valley running through its southern portion. The surrounding area is mostly farmed with grain and canola or ranched with predominantly cattle. Hamlets in the province of Alberta, Canada, are unincorporated communities administered by, and within the boundaries of, specialized municipalities or rural municipalities ( municipal districts, improvement districts and special areas). They consist of five or more dwellings (a majority of which are on parcels of land that are smaller than 1,850 m2), have a generally accepted boundary and name, and contain parcels of land used for non-residential purposes. Alberta Provincial Highway No. 13, commonly referred to as Highway 13, is an east–west highway through central Alberta. It runs from Alder Flats, west of Highway 22, to the Alberta-Saskatchewan border, where it becomes Saskatchewan Highway 14. Highway 13 is about long. List Of Designated Places In Alberta
A designated place is a type of geographic unit used by Statistics Canada to disseminate census data. It is usually "a small community that does not meet the criteria used to define incorporated municipalities or Statistics Canada Population centre (Canada), population centres (areas with a population of at least 1,000 and no fewer than 400 persons per square kilometre)." The 2016 Canadian census was an enumeration of Canadian residents, which counted a population of 35,151,728, a change from its 2011 population of 33,476,688. The census, conducted by Statistics Canada, was Canada's seventh quinquennial census. The official census day was May 10, 2016. Census web access codes began arriving in the mail on May 2, 2016. The 2016 census marked the reinstatement of the mandatory long-form census, which had been dropped in favour of the voluntary National Household Survey for the 2011 census. Nanton, Alberta
Nanton is a town in southern Alberta, Canada. Nanton was named after Sir Augustus Meredith Nanton of Winnipeg (1860–1925) who directed firms which offered financing for farms and ranches throughout the west. It is located south of Calgary at the junction of Highway 2 and Highway 533. Nanton was historically known as "Tap Town", after providing passing motorists with free water supplied from the foothills via a stand tap on the northbound highway.
