Oh, Kay! (film)
''Oh, Kay!'' is a 1928 silent film produced by John McCormick and distributed by First National Pictures. McCormick's wife Colleen Moore starred and Mervyn LeRoy directed the film. It is based on the 1926 musical '' Oh, Kay!'', which had music by George Gershwin, lyrics by Ira Gershwin, and a book by Guy Bolton and P. G. Wodehouse. A copy of the film ''Oh, Kay!'' is housed at the EYE Film Institute Netherlands. It is First National's last film released before integration of Warner Bros. Story On the eve of her wedding Lady Kay Rutfield runs off aboard her sloop. A storm carries her out to sea and she is rescued by a passing rumrunner bound for the Long Island Sound. Once they arrive in the States, Kay makes her escape and hides in the deserted mansion of Jimmy Winter. Jimmy is due to marry the following day. John McCormick (producer)
John McCormick (August 17, 1893 – May 3, 1961) was an American film producer associated with the Hollywood studio First National Pictures. Biography He was born John Emmett McCormick on August 17, 1893 in Kansas City, Missouri. McCormick was a press agent, production manager and film producer in the 1920s. From 1923 to 1930, McCormick was married to Colleen Moore, one of the highest-paid and most popular stars of the silent era. When they married, McCormick was just Moore's press agent, but he later took control of her career. McCormick initially was unconvinced by the development of sound films and vetoed Moore's appearing in them. He changed his mind in 1929 and placed Moore in her first sound film, titled '' Smiling Irish Eyes'', which was not a great success. Their marriage was under increasing strain, and in 1930, the couple divorced. His relationship with Moore is believed to have been the basis for the film '' What Price Hollywood?'' (1932). Ford Sterling
Ford Sterling (born George Stitch; November 3, 1883 – October 13, 1939) was an American comedian and actor best known for his work with Keystone Studios. One of the 'Big 4', he was the original chief of the Keystone Cops. Early years Sterling was born George Stitch in La Crosse, Wisconsin, on November 3, 1883, He left home at age 12 to join a repertory company. Career Sterling joined a circus, working with an aerial act, after which he performed as an acrobatic clown with another circus for five years. He then went to New York City, where he became featured in a musical show. Director Mack Sennett saw him there and offered him a job. Sterling began his career in silent films in 1911 with Biograph Studios. When Sennett left to set up Keystone Studios in 1912, Sterling followed him. Edgar Norton (born Harry Edgar Mills; August 11, 1868 – February 6, 1953) was an English-born American character actor. Early years Norton was born in Islington in London, England, on August 11, 1868, as Harry Edgar Mills, one of eight children of Jane Anne ''née'' Fleming and Frederic Mills, a clerk in the Home Office department of the Civil Service. Career Norton was active on both stage and screen, his theater performances were on both the London and Broadway stages, and his film career spanned both the silent and "talkie" eras in Hollywood. Aged 18, he appeared as the Hare in the original production of ''Alice in Wonderland'' in London in 1886, with the production being under the guidance of Lewis Carroll, who saw the musical five times.
