Ogtay Asadov
Ogtay Sabir oglu Asadov ( az, Oqtay Sabir oğlu Əsədov; born January 3, 1955) is an Azerbaijani politician who has served as the Speaker of the National Assembly of Azerbaijan between 2005 and 2020. Early life Asadov was born in the village of Shaharjik in Syunik Province in Armenia. He graduated from the Machinery Manufacturing Technologies Department of the Azerbaijan State Oil Academy. From 1976 on, Asadov worked as the assistant manager and then manager at the Baku Air Conditioners Plant. In 1979, he was hired as the Senior Engineer at Azerbaijan Main Renovation and Special Construction Department and then worked in the management of ''Azərsantexquraşdırma'', a subsidiary of the same organization. In 1996–2004, he was the President of the ''Absheron Su'' water management company and, in 2004–2005, he was the President of ''Azersu''. He is a member of the International Water Association. 2010 Azerbaijani Parliamentary Election
Parliamentary elections were held in Azerbaijan on 7 November 2010. Candidates The registration of candidates ended on 15 October. Although 1,115 candidates filed application to run in the election, only 690 were given the go ahead by the electoral commission. Conduct The elections were observed by monitors from the European Parliament, Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) and the Council of Europe. OSCE stated that the election campaign had been marred by restrictions on media freedom and freedom of assembly. Many opposition candidates were unable to register themselves, thus creating an "uneven playing field", according to the OSCE. The pre-election atmosphere was tense with the media complaining of pressure and intransparent financial transactions of state officials.
