Ofer Inov
Ofer (, ''lit.'' Fawn) is a moshav in northern Israel. Located south of Haifa, it falls under the jurisdiction of Hof HaCarmel Regional Council. In it had a population of . History The moshav was founded in 1950 by immigrants from India (mainly Cochin) and Iran. Its name is derived from Ayn Ghazal (lit. ''Deer Spring''), the depopulated Palestinian village on whose land it was built. It is also on some of the land of the depopulated villages of Khirbat Al-Manara and Khirbat al-Sawamir Khirbat al-Sawamir was a Palestinian Arab village in the Haifa Subdistrict. Moshavim
A moshav ( he, מוֹשָׁב, plural ', lit. ''settlement, village'') is a type of Israeli town or settlement, in particular a type of cooperative agricultural community of individual farms settler, pioneered by the Labor Zionism, Labour Zionists between 1904 and 1914, during what is known as the Second Aliyah, second wave of ''aliyah''. A resident or a member of a moshav can be called a "moshavnik" (). The moshavim are similar to kibbutzim with an emphasis on community labour. They were designed as part of the Zionist state-building programme following the green revolution Yishuv ("settlement") in the Mandatory Palestine, British Mandate of Palestine during the early 20th century, but in contrast to the collective farming kibbutzim, farms in a moshav tended to be individually owned but of fixed and equal size. Cochin Jews
Cochin Jews (also known as Malabar Jews or Kochinim, from ) are the oldest group of Jews in India, with roots that are claimed to date back to the time of King Solomon. The Cochin Jews settled in the Kingdom of Cochin in South India, now part of the state of Kerala. As early as the 12th century, mention is made of the Jews in southern India by Benjamin of Tudela. They are known to have developed Judeo-Malayalam, a dialect of Malayalam language. Following their expulsion from Iberia in 1492 by the Alhambra Decree, a few families of Sephardi Jews eventually made their way to Cochin in the 16th century. They became known as Paradesi Jews (or Foreign Jews). The European Jews maintained some trade connections to Europe, and their language skills were useful. Khirbat Al-Sawamir
Khirbat al-Sawamir was a Palestinian Arab village in the Haifa Subdistrict. It was depopulated during the 1948 Arab-Israeli War on May 22, 1948. It was located 22 kilometres south of Haifa. History Burial places cut into rock, and ceramics from the Byzantine era have been found at Khirbat al-Sawamir. Ottoman era Khirbat al-Sawamir was incorporated into the Ottoman Empire in 1517 with all of Palestine, and in 1596 it appeared in the tax registers under the name of ''Sawamir'', as being in the ''nahiya'' ("subdistrict") of Ramla, which was under the administration of the '' liwa'' ("district") of Gaza. The Institute for Palestine Studies (IPS) is the oldest independent nonprofit public service research institute in the Arab world.
