Doris Odlum
Doris Maude Odlum (26 June 1890 – 14 October 1985) was an English psychiatrist. She helped to establish psychiatric departments at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Bournemouth and the Elizabeth Garrett Anderson Hospital. She served on the psychological medicine group of the British Medical Association for 45 years. Early life and education Doris Odlum was born on 26 June 1890 in Folkestone, Kent, to Walter Edward Odlum and Maude Gough, both hoteliers. She attended Talbot Heath School in Bournemouth and read classics at St Hilda's College, Oxford. After graduating in 1912, she lectured for the Workers' Educational Association and campaigned for women's suffrage and pacifism. She moved to London in 1914 and received a BA from London University in 1914 and a diploma in education in 1915. Floyd Odlum
Floyd Bostwick Odlum (March 30, 1892 – June 17, 1976) was an American lawyer and industrialist. He has been described as "possibly the only man in the United States who made a great fortune out of the Depression". Life and career After struggling as a corporate attorney in Salt Lake City, Odlum received an offer of a job at a New York firm, and in 1921 became vice-president of his primary client, Electric Bond and Share Company. In 1923, Odlum, a friend, and their wives pooled a total of $39,600 and formed the United States Company to speculate in purchases of utilities and general securities. Within two years, the company's net assets had increased 17 fold to nearly $700,000. In 1928, Odlum incorporated Atlas Utilities Company to take over the common stock of his other company. George Odlum
George William Odlum (24 June 1934 – 28 September 2003) was a Saint Lucian left-wing politician who served as Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister. Born in Castries, Odlum studied at Bristol University and Oxford University in the United Kingdom before returning to Saint Lucia as Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Trade. After working for the Commonwealth Secretariat and the West Indies Associated States, he formed the Saint Lucia Forum, a left-wing pressure group. This group merged with the Saint Lucia Labour Party in time for the 1974 elections; although the Party did not win, the progress they made allowed them to take power in 1979, with Odlum as Deputy Prime Minister. Although a secret agreement originally stated that Odlum would take power after six months, his support for Cuba and similar left-wing nations led to American pressure to keep him out. Robert Emmet Odlum (August 31, 1851 – May 19, 1885) was an American swimming instructor. Odlum was the first person to jump off the Brooklyn Bridge, and was killed doing so. Early life Robert Emmet Odlum was born in Ogdensburg, New York, on August 31, 1851, the son of Catherine and Richard Odlum.According to an article published in the Ogdensburg ''Journal'' in 1885, there was some question about Robert Odlum's paternity. Charlotte Odlum Smith (née Odlum; 18401917) was an American reformer, regarded as the foremost authority on women's working conditions. She was a formidable lobbyist for disadvantaged women, and was partly responsible for the mandatory listing of ingredients on food labels. Smith was also a magazine editor, active in gaining recognition of women inventors.
