Ode To Gallantry (film)
''Ode To Gallantry'' () is a 1982 Hong Kong film based on Louis Cha's novel of the same name. The film was produced by the Shaw Brothers Studio, directed by Chang Cheh and starred the Venom Mob. Formerly one of the rarest Venom Mob martial arts films available, it has been digitally remastered and released by Celestial Pictures. Plot Whilst searching for his mother, Gouzazhong a.k.a. 'Mongrel' ( Philip Kwok) finds a metal tablet amidst a fight between several martial art clans. A passing couple Shi Qing (Tang Ching) and his wife Min Rou (Lau Wai-ling) immediately recognize the item but before they can explain its significance, it is taken back by its original owner, Xie Yanke (Wong Lik), a powerful and eccentric martial artist. Xie confronts the fighting clan members and proclaims he will punish them in a ritualistic massacre he conducts once every three years. Chang Cheh
Chang Cheh (; 10 February 1923 – 22 June 2002) was a Chinese people, Chinese filmmaker, screenwriter, lyricist and producer active in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s. Chang Cheh directed more than 90 films in Greater China, the majority of them with the Shaw Brothers Studio in Hong Kong. Most of his films are action films, especially ''wuxia'' and ''kung fu'' films filled with violence. In the early 1970s he frequently cast actors David Chiang and Ti Lung in his films. In the late 1970s he mainly worked with a group of actors known as the Venom Mob. Chang Cheh is also known for his long-time collaboration with writer Ni Kuang. Louis Cha Leung-yung (; 10 March 1924 – 30 October 2018), better known by his pen name Jin Yong (), pronounced "Gum Yoong" in Cantonese, was a Chinese wuxia (" martial arts and chivalry") novelist and essayist who co-founded the Hong Kong daily newspaper ''Ming Pao'' in 1959 and served as its first editor-in-chief.
