Oddur Gottskálksson
Oddur Gottskálksson (1495/1496 – 1556) was the translator of the first book printed in Icelandic, the New Testament. Oddur was born in Hólar where his father, Gottskálk grimmi Nikulásson was bishop. After his father died in 1520, Oddur was sent to live with his paternal family in Bergen, Norway. When he was a young adult, he went to study in Germany, where he became acquainted with the ideas of the Protestant Reformation. Before 1535, he returned to Iceland to serve as a scribe for the Catholic Bishop of Skálholt, Ögmundur Pálsson. It was there that he befriended Gissur Einarsson and other Reform-minded clergy and began his translation of the New Testament. Acccording to Oddur's own account, he did his translation work secretly in a barn: ''"Jesus, Our Redeemer, was laid in a donkey's crib, but now I lay in a barn to put his Word in my native language."'' Oddur Olafson
Oddur Olafson (February 25, 1888 – December 16, 1972) was a politician in Manitoba, Canada. He served in the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba from 1941 to 1945 as a Liberal Independent. Olafson was born to an Icelandic family in Riverton, Manitoba. He was educated in Riverton, and later became president of Olafson Transportation Co. Limited, based in Winnipeg. He was also a member of the Lisgar Masonic Lodge No. 2 in Selkirk. He was elected to the Manitoba legislature in the 1936 provincial election, defeating a candidate of the Conservative Party in the sprawling northern constituency of Rupertsland. As a Liberal Independent, he opposed the 1932 alliance between the Liberal Party and the Progressive Party of Premier John Bracken. Only one other Liberal Independent was elected, and Olafson sat as an opposition member for the next four years. Oddr Snorrason whose name is also sometimes Anglicized as Odd Snorrason was a 12th-century Icelandic Benedictine monk at the Þingeyraklaustur monastery (''Þingeyrarklaustur''). The monastery was founded in 1133 and was the first in Iceland. Work One latin version of the ''Óláfs saga Tryggvasonar'' is attributed to Oddr - the original work has been almost completely lost but a translation into Old Norse is preserved in two nearly complete versions and a fragment of a third.
