Observe. Hack. Make. also known as OHM, was an outdoor hacker conference that took place in the Netherlands from July 31 to August 4, 2013. This conference was part of a sequence that began with the Galactic Hacker Party in 1989, followed by Hacking at the End of the Universe in 1993, Hacking In Progress in 1997, Hackers At Large in 2001, What the Hack in 2005, and Hacking at Random in 2009. The tradition continued in 2017 with Still Hacking Anyway. With 3000 tickets sold, the camp was completely sold out weeks before it started. With 700 more tickets than the previous camp it was the biggest Dutch hacker camp so far. Julian Assange One of the highlights of the event was a live video connection with Julian Assange. Still Hacking Anyway
Still Hacking Anyway, abbreviated SHA2017, was a hacker conference and festival in The Netherlands. It is part of the quadrennial hacker camps that started in 1989 with the Galactic Hacker Party in Amsterdam. The camp took place from 4 to 8 August on a scouts terrain in Zeewolde. At least 3300 hackers and technology minded people from 50 countries participated in workshops and discussions. Participants had Gigabit Ethernet through Datenklos (new chemical toilets with Ethernet switches). A radiostation with FM license and a GSM tower were also built. Oudkarspel
Oudkarspel is a village in the Dutch province of North Holland. It is located in the municipality of Dijk en Waard, north of Noord-Scharwoude. History The village was first mentioned in 1094 as Aldenkercha. The current name means "old parish". Oudkarspel developed in the 11th century a linear settlement along the dike. In 1607, the village became a ''heerlijkheid'' and the manor house Oud-Karspel was built around 1640. The estate was damaged by war in 1799 and demolished in 1808. The Dutch Reformed church is a three aisled basilica-like church. The tower without a spire used to date from the 13th century. In 1969, the church was completely destroyed in a fire, and was rebuilt in a basic style. Oudkarspel was home to 704 people in 1840. It was a separate municipality until 1941, when the new municipality of Langedijk was created. Galactic Hacker Party (1989) The Galactic Hacker Party was a hacker con that was held in Paradiso in the Netherlands from August 2, 1989 to August 4, 1989 Visitors were people with an interest in technology (mainly computers) and the - at that time - relatively unknown internet. A hacker is a person skilled in information technology who uses their technical knowledge to achieve a goal or overcome an obstacle, within a computerized system by non-standard means. Though the term ''hacker'' has become associated in popular culture with a '' security hacker''someone who utilizes their technical know-how of bugs or exploits to break into computer systems and access data which would otherwise be inaccessible to them – hacking can also be utilized by legitimate figures in legal situations. What The Hack was an outdoor hacker conference held in Liempde, Netherlands between the 28th and 31st of July, 2005. Timeline What the Hack was an event in a sequence that began with the Galactic Hacker Party in 1989, followed by Hacking at the End of the Universe in 1993, Hacking In Progress in 1997, Hackers At Large in 2001 and Hacking at Random in 2009. Attendance Over 2000 hackers visited the event to participate in an exchange on several technical, social and philosophical matters of importance to the technically inclined community.
