Oakley United F.C.
Oakley United Football Club are a Scottish football club based in Oakley, Fife. Formed in 1964, they play their home games at Blairwood Park. The club's colours are maroon and light blue. The team plays in the East of Scotland Football League, having moved from the SJFA East Region South Division in 2018. In season 2005–06, they won the Fife District championship to gain promotion to the East Superleague, having been relegated from the same division in season 2004–05. At the end of season 2006–07 they were relegated from the East Superleague. The team has been managed since November 2018 by Stewart Kenny until he joined Hill o’beath in summer 2023. Oakley, Fife
Oakley is a village in Fife, Scotland located at the mutual border of Carnock and Culross parishes, Fife, west of Dunfermline on the A907. The village was built in connection with the Forth or Oakley Ironworks (1846), now all gone along with the colliery industry. The ironworks, which ceased production many years ago, had six furnaces, with stacks high, and the engine-house was built with walls to comprise of stone below the surface of the ground. Subsequent to their use in the ironworks, the buildings were used as a sawmill producing rough timber for railway sleepers, fence posts and the like. Comrie Colliery closed in 1986, and the village took many years to recover from this major employer's demise. Ernie McGarr
Ernest "Ernie" McGarr (born 9 March 1944) is a Scottish former professional footballer, who played as a goalkeeper for several clubs in the Scottish Football League and was capped twice for the Scotland national side. Playing career McGarr signed for Aberdeen in 1965 from Junior club Kilbirnie Ladeside, and made his first team debut at the end of the 1965–66 season in a friendly match versus Crystal Palace. The presence of Bobby Clark as his rival for the goalkeeping position at Pittodrie meant that first team opportunities in the early years were limited. It was only during the 1968–69 season, when a loss of form by Clark prompted manager Eddie Turnbull to give him a chance, that McGarr was able to stake his claim and secure a regular starting position. Bobby Graham (born 22 November 1944) is a Scottish retired professional footballer who played for Liverpool during the 1960s. Early years and Liverpool Born in Motherwell, North Lanarkshire, Scotland, Graham played for Motherwell Bridge Works as an amateur before Bill Shankly signed him for Liverpool as 17-year-old in November 1961. A forward, Graham scored on his full debut, a 6-1 victory over KR Reykjavik on 14 September 1964 in a European Cup preliminary round 2nd leg tie at Anfield. He scored a hat-trick in his first league game against Aston Villa 12 days later on 26 September, the game finished 5-1 to the Reds with Graham's goals coming in the 6th, 64th and 86th minutes. William Menzies Newbigging (27 December 1874 – 16 October 1954) was a Scottish professional footballer who played for Tottenham Hotspur, Motherwell, Folkestone, Fulham and Queens Park Rangers. Career Newbigging started his career with local club Lanark County before joining Tottenham Hotspur for the 1896–97 season when the club turned professional.
