Oakland is a town in the west-central part of Garrett County, Maryland, United States. The town has a population of 1,925 according to the 2010 United States Census. The town is also the county seat of Garrett County and is located within the Pittsburgh DMA. Oakland is situated only miles from the source of the Potomac River, which flows directly into Chesapeake Bay. It is also near the Wisp Resort at Deep Creek Lake, a major ski resort for many Marylanders and other visitors. History Oakland was formally incorporated as a town in 1862. About one mile south of the Arkansas state line, it is north of Farmerville and northwest of Marion. It was also known as Union Cross Roads and Springhill or Spring Hill.
