Oakland is a town in the west-central part of Garrett County, Maryland, United States. The town has a population of 1,925 according to the 2010 United States Census. The town is also the county seat of Garrett County and is located within the Pittsburgh DMA. Oakland is situated only miles from the source of the Potomac River, which flows directly into Chesapeake Bay. It is also near the Wisp Resort at Deep Creek Lake, a major ski resort for many Marylanders and other visitors. History Oakland was formally incorporated as a town in 1862. The town is home to a historic B&O railroad station, which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973, and restored in the 2000s. Oakland is a census-designated place (CDP) comprising the main population center in the town of Oakland in Kennebec County, Maine, United States. The population was 2,602 at the 2010 census, out of 6,240 in the entire town of Oakland. Geography The CDP is in northern Kennebec County, in the eastern part of the town of Oakland at . It sits along Messalonskee Stream at the outlet of Messalonskee Lake. The village center is on the north side of the stream, but developed land exists on both sides. The CDP extends east to the Waterville city line, north to Red Brook, a west-side tributary of Messalonskee Stream, west to Ten Oaks Road, South Gage Road, and Wiley Point Road, and south to Webb Road. Oakland, Union Parish, Louisiana is a former community in northern Union Parish, Louisiana, United States. About one mile south of the Arkansas state line, it is north of Farmerville and northwest of Marion. It was also known as Union Cross Roads and Springhill or Spring Hill. Its location is where Oakland Highway ( Louisiana Highway 551) comes to its end at north-south Louisiana Highway 549. There are signs indicating "Oakland" on all three approaches, but there are no buildings remaining anywhere in sight; the area is mostly used for tree farming.
