Oakham Farm
The Oakham Farm is a historic farm at 23226 Oakham Farm Lane, near Middleburg in Loudoun County, Virginia. The farm includes of land north of United States Route 50, with its building complex anchored by a farmhouse built in 1847 and repeatedly altered. The main portion of the farmhouse is a 1920s three-story Classical Revival block, which has the original 1847 two-story Greek Revival house attached as an ell to one side, along with another c. 1840 structure that may have functioned as a separate kitchen. The property was first developed by the Peyton family, with its present buildings dating to the ownership of the Rogers family. During the American Civil War, Oakham was where the irregular Confederate Army unit known as Mosby's Rangers was organized. The farm was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2016. Middleburg, Virginia
Middleburg is a town in Loudoun County, Virginia, United States, with a population of 673 as of the 2010 census. It is the southernmost town along Loudoun County's shared border with Fauquier County. Middleburg is known as the "Nation's Horse and Hunt Capital" for its foxhunting, steeplechases, and large estates. The Middleburg Historic District, comprising the 19th-century center of town, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. History The town was established in 1787 by American Revolutionary War Lieutenant Colonel and Virginia statesman, Leven Powell. U.S. Route 50 or U.S. Highway 50 (US 50) is a major east–west route of the U.S. Highway system, stretching from Interstate 80 (I-80) in West Sacramento, California, to Maryland Route 528 (MD 528) in Ocean City, Maryland, on the Atlantic Ocean. Mosby's Rangers
The 43rd Virginia Cavalry Battalion, also known as Mosby's Rangers, Mosby's Raiders, or Mosby's Men, was a battalion of partisan cavalry in the Confederate Army during the American Civil War. Noted for their lightning strike raids on Union targets and their ability to consistently elude pursuit, the Rangers disrupted Union communications and supply lines. The 43rd Battalion was formed on June 10, 1863 at Rector's Cross Roads, near Rectortown, Virginia, when John S. Mosby formed Company A of the battalion.
