Oak Lawn is a Village (Illinois), village in Cook County, Illinois, Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 58,362 at the 2020 United States Census, 2020 census. Oak Lawn is a suburb of Chicago, located southwest of the city. It shares borders with the city in two areas but is surrounded mostly by other suburbs. History Founding In August 1835, James B. Campbell purchased the land stretching between Cicero Avenue and Central Avenue from 95th Street (Chicago), 95th Street to 103rd Street. It is unclear what Campbell's intentions with the area were, but by 1840, he had lost a court battle with the Illinois State Bank and his land was sold in a public auction. John Simpson, a prominent figure in early Oak Lawn history, bought the northern half of the property in 1842. Oak Lawn is a historic home located at Ridgely, Caroline County, Maryland, United States. It is a large rectangular -story brick structure with an arched brick colonnade connecting the two-story brick kitchen wing. The main house was erected in 1783 and the kitchen and arcade added before 1798. In the mid 19th century, it was owned by Greenbury Ridgely, the founder of the town of Ridgely. Oak Lawn is a historic home located at Charlottesville, Virginia. The brick dwelling was built in 1822, and consists of a two-story, four-bay, main block flanked by one-story, two-bay wings. The central section has a front gable roof and one-story porch with a flat roof supported by four Tuscan order columns and topped by a second story balcony.
