Oak Lake, Manitoba
Oak Lake is an unincorporated urban community in the Rural Municipality of Sifton within the Canadian province of Manitoba that held town status prior to January 1, 2015. It is located west of Brandon along the Trans-Canada Highway. The lake after which it was named is in the rural municipality's western area. During the late 19th century, the area around Oak Lake was a popular stopping point for fur traders and settlers due to the large number of big oak trees (revered for their strength) located around the lake that could be used to repair their wagons. In the fall of 1881, work crews on the transcontinental Canadian Pacific Railway had reached Flat Creek to the east of the current townsite. In the spring they moved the camp west and built a siding and station (now long gone) where the community's flags and flower garden are now located. Oak Lake (Manitoba)
Oak Lake is a lake in the south-western part of the Canadian province of Manitoba in a region called Westman. Oak Lake is a kettle lake and is an aquifer supplier for numerous nearby residential areas and farms. The lake is in the RM of Sifton and sits at an elevation of 426 metres above sea level. Provincial Road 254 provides access to the lake. At , Oak Lake is the largest lake in the region and its primary surface inflow is Pipestone Creek, which originates in Saskatchewan. Pipestone Creek enters the lake in the north-west corner through Oak Lake Marsh, which itself is four times the size of Oak Lake. At the southern end of the lake is Oak Lake Dam (49°38′27″N, 100°45′8″W). While Oak Lake is not a man-made lake, the dam is used to regulate water levels. Water flows past the dam and into the Plum Lakes, which in turn are drained by Plum Creek and on into the Souris River. Lincoln County, Minnesota
Lincoln County is a county in the U.S. state of Minnesota. As of the 2020 census, the population was 5,640. Its county seat is Ivanhoe. History During and after the American Civil War, the Minnesota legislature wanted to name a county after President Abraham Lincoln. Acts were proposed to effect this change in 1861, in 1866, and in 1870, but each time the effort failed by vote or was ignored by the county's citizens. The final effort was an act passed on March 6, 1873, dividing Lyon County into approximately equal halves, with the western half to be named Lincoln. The county voters approved this act in the November 1873 election, and Governor Horace Austin proclaimed the county's existence on December 5, 1873, with Lake Benton as county seat.
