Santoor
The Indian santoor instrument is a trapezoid-shaped hammered dulcimer, and a variation of the Iranian santur. The instrument is generally made of walnut and has 25 bridges. Each bridge has 4 strings, making for a total of 100 strings. It is a traditional instrument in Jammu and Kashmir (union territory), Jammu and Kashmir, and dates back to ancient times. It was called ''Shatha Tantri Veena'' in ancient Sanskrit texts. Development In ancient Sanskrit texts, it has been referred to as ''shatatantri vina'' (100-stringed vina). In Kashmir the santoor was used to accompany Music of Kashmir, folk music. It is played in a style of music known as the ''Sufiana Mausiqi''. Some researchers slot it as an improvised version of a primitive instrument played in the Mesopotamian times (1600–900 B.C.) Sufi mystics used it as an accompaniment to their hymns. In Indian santoor playing, the specially-shaped mallets (''mezrab'') are lightweight and are held between the index and middle fingers. ...

Darya Dadvar
Darya Dadvar''Daryā'' (دريا) ( Old Persian: ''Drayah'', Middle Persian: ''Drayā'', Sanskrit: ''Jrayaḥ'') is the Persian word for ''Sea'', or ''Ocean'' (similar to ''the'' sea), and ''Dādvar'' (دادور), a combination of ''Dād'' (داد), Justice, and ''var'' (ور), a suffix indicative of one's profession or vocation, for ''Jurist'' or ''Chief Justice'' (in general, someone whose main business is judicial administration of law and equity). For comparison, ''Dāneshvar'', a combination of ''Dānesh'', Knowledge, Science, and ''var'', is the Persian word for ''Scientist''. The word ''Dādvar'' is archaic, if not obsolete, and it is conceivable that the contemporary word ''Dāvar'' (داور), Arbiter, Arbitrator, Judge, or sports referee may be ''Dādvar'' itself, abbreviated through its frequent use over perhaps millennia, or is a direct descendant of it. The "''v''" in ''Dādvar'' should be pronounced as "''w''" and the "''a''" as "''aa''". Roland G. Kent, ''Old Per ...

Persian Phonology
The Persian language has between six and eight vowels and 26 consonants. It features contrastive stress and syllable-final consonant clusters. Vowels The chart to the right reflects the vowels of many educated Persian speakers from Tehran. There are three short vowels: , and , and three long vowels: , and . The three short vowels are only short when in an open syllable (i.e. without a coda) that is non-final (regardless of stress); e.g. "sound", "God". In an unstressed closed syllable, they are around 60 percent as long as a long vowel. Otherwise all vowels are long; e.g. "firmer".Toosarvandani, Maziar D. 200"Vowel Length in Modern Farsi" JRAS, Series 3, 14, 3, pp. 241–251. When the short vowels are in open syllables, they are also unstable and tend to assimilate in quality to the following long vowel (both in informal and formal speech). Thus, "two hundred" ranges between and ; "crowded" ranges between and ; "to arrive" ranges between and ; and so on. Wor ...

International Phonetic Alphabet
The International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) is an alphabetic system of phonetic transcription, phonetic notation based primarily on the Latin script. It was devised by the International Phonetic Association in the late 19th century as a standardized representation of speech sounds in written form.International Phonetic Association (IPA), ''Handbook''. The IPA is used by lexicography, lexicographers, foreign language students and teachers, linguistics, linguists, speech–language pathology, speech–language pathologists, singers, actors, constructed language creators, and translators. The IPA is designed to represent those qualities of speech that are part of wiktionary:lexical, lexical (and, to a limited extent, prosodic) sounds in oral language: phone (phonetics), phones, phonemes, Intonation (linguistics), intonation, and the separation of words and syllables. To represent additional qualities of speech—such as tooth wiktionary:gnash, gnashing, lisping, and sounds made wi ...

Romanization Of Persian
Romanization of Persian or Latinization of Persian ( fa, لاتین‌نویسی فارسی, Lâtin-Nevisi-ye Fârsi, link=no, ) is the representation of the Persian language (Iranian Persian, Dari and Tajik) with the Latin script. Several different romanization schemes exist, each with its own set of rules driven by its own set of ideological goals. Romanization is familiar to many Persian speakers. Many use an ''ad hoc'' romanization for text messaging and email; road signs in Iran commonly include both Persian and English (in order to make them accessible to foreigners); and websites use romanized domain names. Romanization paradigms Because the Perso-Arabic script is an abjad writing system (with a consonant-heavy inventory of letters), many distinct words in standard Persian can have identical spellings, with widely varying pronunciations that differ in their (unwritten) vowel sounds. Thus a romanization paradigm can follow either transliteration (which mirrors spelling a ...
